I don't know if peak SV has passed. They seem to have a very solid following and what appears to be frequent return business, and may be in more niche areas of the the US/world. If I saw another one around my parts (buffalo NY) I'd be flabbergasted! The only other one I've ever seen was outside of Denver on the Triple Bypass ride with over 5000 people! ... IMO they aren't pushing themselves on social media as hard as other "boutique" brands (moots, mosaic, etc...). It's like a if you know you know kinda thing, and if you know you want... like rock lobster for example.

ease of access to specialized/cannondale/giant/trek make it hard for people to put down a hefty deposit and wait 12 months for a bike!

Congrats. Can't wait to hear you're getting.

By peak I mean that you don't see new unveils here as much as we used to.

The workshop is still killing it in terms of pushing boundaries in terms of paint, design and models.

From a quick chat with them, it sounds like they really pared back the options on rim road: no more carbon ST option, for example. Frames are a mix of Columbus with an S3 DT - probably for weight savings. Straight 1 1/8" HT only. I'll let Sacha do the fit, since he's pretty well known for it. Paint? I'm kinda partial to the matte lavender they did on the OG road a few years back, but paint is also where they upcharge like mad, so I'll keep it simple. $6k for a steel F/F is kinda spicy, but inflation comes for us all.

Controversial opinion, but I do not like the painted-to-match stems. Like, at all.

Now the real question: NOS Record 10, Record 12, or DA9100? I've got the R10 & R12 groups sitting in my cave, but would have to swap or pony up for DA9100.

re: sv

I know a few things from my visit / fitting / tour, that things are definitely changing there at SV. Not necessarily for the worst, just different. They dont seem to be so much pushing the brand & product, as they are focusing on their customer’s experience next.

And things have always been changing there, apparently. As a result they certainly don’t pump out the same XYZ model every year with minor improvements.

Regardless, I’m still so stoked on what they’re doing - definitely staying true to their uniqueness and “this doesn’t have to be ‘ok’ “ with everyone/the industry philosophy.

Super happy to see people still getting excited about their older frames, and people plunging down deposits on new ones. Can’t wait for mine! Might have to make a post about it… definitely IYKYK

When I visited 5 years ago for my fitting the stash of True Temper tubing both stock and custom they had was impressive. Richard said they ordered a bunch before production stopped.

Interesting about the paring back of options. That was one of the more fun parts of my discussion with Sacha, where to spend so that the complete bike fit in my budget.

I have a hard time in seeing how they'll improve the customer and owner experience. Buying was great, follow up and just general friendly emails great as well.

But back to the bike at hand, it is a goiod example of where they came from and hints about how they got to where they are today.

Awesome and hell yea! I still aspire to put down a deposit on a new one some day..

Also agree on the matte lavender, first time I was almost able to put down a deposit on one was for that color!

Record 12 for sure. Aesthetically I think campy looks best on these bikes, especially rim brake. If my budget allowed (and this was an impulse build to start with), I would have picked up a chorus 12 or chorus 11 group. I have DA9100 on my supersix, its great and works well... but it's like nothing special comparatively. I certainly wouldn't give up record 12 for da9100, especially if I had a record 12 just lying around!

I agree! Other than how stunning their bikes are, this is part of why I'm drawn so much to them. Just doing their own thing and what they like and give the impression that they kinda don't give a **** what anyone else thinks. I like that.

Got it out for a rip today. I love it. It feels as lively and responsive as my supersix. Can’t wait to get it out for more miles, and still kind of in shock that I have one.

I swear get around a to swapping the brakes out soon.

That thing looks great! Just troll the classifieds for brakes or put out an ISO. Those ee units come up every now and then.

It's also a good sign that the frame compares favorably with the SSEvo - a true S-tier carbon frame.

Thanks! I've got a set of Ultegra brakes, I'm just being lazy.

Yea, my SSE is a 2016 HiMod and is a truly lovely bike. I'm sure it is "faster" but the SV did not feel like a slouch, and handling wise was remarkably similar and felt very snappy when accelerating. With fried legs, on a 35* day in February yesterday I set a 2nd fastest time on a strava segment, only off my PR by 20ish seconds and I wasn't even fully ON the gas.

Lovely build, really tempted to get mine repainted but then part of me says keep it original.
