Ciocc SL Winter Project is complete!
Hello all!
Just finished one of my winter bike projects and thought I share the results. It came out great IMO. It is one of Ciocc's Columbus SL frames that has been repainted in Ferrari Red with clear coat over decals and a non-original Tange chrome fork. It has a 62cm c-c seat tube and 60 cm c-c top tube. Campy Super Record brakes and derailleurs with Victory shifters. Nuovo Record hubs with Victory Crono tubular rims. Cinelli Giro D'italia bar and 1A stem. The Super Record rear derailleur handles the 28-teeth 5 speed freewheel perfectly without any problem. It weighs in at only 22.06 lbs for the relatively larger frame! Now it will probably just sit in my office to collect dust and look pretty ![]() [IMG] ![]() [IMG] ![]() [IMG] ![]() [IMG] ![]() |

Classy. Is there a cafe near your office? Just an idea.

That's a fine idea!
![]() Unfortunately, I can't ride this beauty because she's too tall for me. But it has been fun working the project. |

Sweet Mary and Joseph, that's absolutely stunning. Red (the fastest) paint, chrome fork, silver components, white bar tape, Cinelli stem and bars (and seatpost?), white saddle (Selle San Marco Rolls?), and hoods...
I feel faint... (and old) NO!! NO NO NO, A THOUSAND TIMES NO!!!! RIDE THAT PUPPY!!!!

Thank you all for the words of encouragement and appreciation.
I had raced a similar bike Ciocc back in the late 80s for a college team; when I had saved money for 3 summers straight to be able to afford one. That one was a size 56. I had let that bike go many years ago and thought it would be nice to have vintage Ciocc again. But alas, I could only find a larger size from which I could build a project from. @reuben: you forgot the gold chain ![]() |

I just posted on my Ciocc San Cristobal and am in the Bay Area....I bought the frameset at Shaw's in San Jose.
I don't think mine ever looked half as nice as yours, truly amazing, well done! |

Last year I bought an updated version of a San Cristobal, which they still make. I've lost a lot of Paceline cred by not posting pics.

I have a 56 Designer '84 in excellent shape. Not a "restoration" in the strict sense. Campy brake levers were shot and replaced with aftermarket. Campy record brake calipers also shot and replaced with modern Campy Centaur. Replaced rusted cable guides on top tube and DYI repainted (not perfect, but not bad either). All else is original from '84. Chrome is excellent. No rust. Would be a good candidate for a proper historically correct restoration but I don't think I have the appetite. Not my primary bike, but I just like riding it. It can keep pace with a spirited group ride, but climbing (in Pittsburgh) with old gearing difficult.

Beautiful bike! You can swap in a 28-T freewheel to help you with those hills. The rear derailleur should be able to handle it. As the OP and restorer of the 62cm red Ciocc, I have been admiring my own handiwork as the bike is sitting in my office as artwork ![]() Enjoy your Ciocc! |
