Hampsten Il Mostro

Steve and I have been talking about this bike for at least a year or so; it's my one concession to a road or "all road" bike with discs and part of a plan (since gone awry or at least taking a longer road) to get down to much less than a handful of bikes as I head towards retirement.

Design parameters started out with the concept of a 650b road bike, with 650b x42/700 x 30 wheels, but fork constraints lead to a bit of opening up the back end so it will accomodate even larger (700/35 or so) so it's coming out fairly similar to Lavi's Hampsten.

Build will be Sram AXS and starting with rim brake shifters and Growtac mech disc calipers. Steve and I are conjuring a special paint job (yeah I know, ti doesn't need paint yada, yada) so it will be awhile until this one is ready to hit the road, but since beautiful Italian steel bikes have been dominating this place of late, here's a bit of variety to consider. And Steve's been a saint putting up with my back and forth on the details of this build.

Looking forward to seeing the paint job and your eval of the Growtacs!

Congrats! This is your second Hampsten now? I'm excited to see the special paint you cook up.

Our stables seem to be converging some as I've got a Kirk at paint with JB, and my Hampsten arrived last fall. The Hampsten a similar thought in carbon, but with smaller tires 700c 32s or 650b 38s, and it's awesome. It will be interesting to compare notes on how smaller vs larger and different materials ride.

Steve is fantastic to work with, and was always asking me the right questions to get it where I would be happy.

Yep I have a carbon rim brake Hampsten. Now I remember yours - when I first started talking with Steve about this bike he said "no carbon disc for you" so I was pleasantly surprised to see yours.

That's gonna be one helluva build, congrats! I still have a framed poster of Andy on the Gavia that Steve was kind enough to have Andy sign for me. I'd love to have a Hampsten one day.

So so beautiful..

I don’t know that there’s another garage out there as special as yours at this point.
