During this period lower gearing became available. You could put those extra gears to good use. What a concept! You mean I can run a 28? A 30? I can have a 34 up front? I can run a medium cage rear derailleur?

I have a good supply of 10's cassettes...14-23, 13-26, 13-29, 12-30, etc.....and can make up anything. I'm good at math, so understand exactly what my gear inches are with anything I put together. And I understand exactly how to set up a compact with whatever I need in rear.

The problem for me is....for my travel bike and mountain trip bike....I still much prefer a 10's triple set up for a trip.....just don't think a compact does that job as well as a triple.

And for my Florida riding.....don't think any 11's (or 12's) cassette works for me like a 13-26 10's (13-14-15-16-17-18-19-21-23-26). So that's why I like 10's still. Just don't need a cassette starting with 11 or 12. And yes I know.....a 48X12 is same gear as a 52X13. A 44x11 is same as a 52X13. But I also like big rings that are ramped and pined to work together. So that means I like 39X52, 39X53, 40X50, 42X52, 42X53, etc. Those are all Campy rings/combinations made to work together, and the FD fits the chainring curve.

However, not really a retro grouch either.....so imagine I will go to 12 at some point. With some new campy wheels (C17 Zonda's good enough for me...love my C15's) Will find a ramped and pinned crankset (like Sugino) that shifts great with a 48 big ring. Can always use my 10's stuff on my travel bike with standard Record 32 hole rims....that can be repaired anywhere at any bike shop. Got to be careful don't get too exotic with travel bike.

Campy 10 is outdated and worthless, but, as a favor, I'd be willing to give you $100 for it

If the goal is to not feel like a hoarder/over-consumer, then don't rationalize the acquisition of something else by getting rid of something. Just get rid of what you don't use and keep/get what you enjoy using.

I got rid of most of my 10s spares a few years ago. Kept one complete 7800 group for a time capsule build. Still have many bikes, including several high end road bikes that I don't even ride. I'm fine with that. I'll eventually build myself a nice office or man-cave to have them on display.

I've had a couple of these...they are lovely. Sold my Merckx Professional with an alloy C10 group awhile back. Still have a De Rosa Neo Primato with alloy C10 and also a Davidson Impulse with cf C10. Probably my favorite combination of ride quality and shifting performance thus far.

Campagnolo only had 8 speeds then, if I remember correctly.

Yes, but much of sentiment here seems to think aesthetics and technology ended right around that time.

Kinda like how your musical tastes get set in stone when you're 13.

My Campy Record 10 Pro-shift is the last update my Ciöc CLX will ever get. Its is awesome at race shifts (I can dump all 10 gears with a single lever throw or gain all 10 with 2) and is user rebuildable, and Campagnolo still manufacturers parts for it.

For the last few months I have been riding Dura Ace 8 speed, and can't overstate how great it is. In fact, I just found a Hügi 8 speed cassette that I would have never imagined buying back in the day, but now see as affordable.

I really can't find any fault with Ultegra 10 & 11, Dura Ace 10, Red 10, or Athena 11 either.

But if you want to get a Super Six EVO, I can attest that it is a spectacular frameset, and you should sell anything you are hoarding and build whatever you really want onto it. It rides great With Red, Dura Ace and Record 10. Mine is back to a frameset waiting for a future Gaimon-style build, although he seems to have been recently sold on the System Six...

Whatever you do, it is hard to imagine any concerns you may have had not melting away as you ride.

I'm a bit like that with 10 speed SRAM. On any given day, I have two or three full groupsets (Rival to Red) in the parts pile, a stock of consumables (chains, cassettes...), and seven or eight bikes built up with the stuff. The hoods just fit my hands better than Shimano or Campy, I can get the gear ranges I want with 10 speed, and I don't have to trash or lace new hubs into my various wheelsets.

I do have a bike with Shimano 11 speed hydraulic, and I just haven't warmed to it yet.

...
And that's part of the decision. Campy 10s fit my hands much better than 9s Shimano. But 11s Shimano really trumps Campy 10s for my hands. So, fit is key.

I wasn't able to test out current Campy 11, but the levers can't be adjusted closer to the bars, and they're not canted outward like Shimano levers.
