I haven't but have heard that it's quite effective at getting the job done.

Dave, it looks to me like that picture was taken at your Baja Mexico pad, but I don't see any old Patron corks under the bed, so I must be wrong...

That pic was taken on our third floor oceanside patio. Our housekeeper was nice enough to pose for me.

BTW, I repurpose the corks.

I just got an eBay purchase with tiagra 4600 3x9 and was pleasantly surprised by how well it works. First thing I did was clean the chain and cassette of the years of gunk.

I usually ride Di2 but had RSX 3x7 on my commuter before the frame died. The Tiagra certainly doesn't have much by way of positive feedback, but I guess I'm used to that with Di2.

I'm riding it until it gives out. Should be a few years I hope. The RSX stuff still works after like 20.

Slightly off topic but I have the 9 speed Tiagra on a bike and a great bike shop (Harris cyclery) recabled it and adjusted everything and I was amazed how well it worked. I didn’t really notice a huge difference between my ultegra 6700 on my fancier bike in that once on either bike and riding I never even thought about how well either shifted.

There's a bike shop not far from me, they call themselves "the best pro shop in the country". The first time I showed up for one of their rides, the first thing they asked me was "would you like us to sell you a bike that fits?". They have snob rides where they'll pick on any part of your bike that's not up to their standards (anything that's not 9100 or Super Record or Etap). For them I keep an older Allez with 7-speed Sora at the shop. The fit is exactly the same as my Tarmac, and I've learned that they can't pick on my bike if they're wheezing.

Shimano figured out a long time ago that if their lower end products don't work well then people wouldn't want to upgrade to the fancy stuff.

They do a remarkably good job at all price points. I've only got them on the MTB and utility bikes but it all just works from Acera up to XT.

I have both 6800 Ultegra and 4800 Tiagra on two bikes and the differences are miniscule. I'd totally recommend it to a friend.

My first brand new road bike had Tiagra 9 speed. Worst group out there. In the shop constantly, always loud and clunky. Never fully dialed. Even the shop admitted that 'that's the best you're gonna get at this level.' Never again.

If riding Shimano, Ultegra and DA only please. (I'd try 105 if the need arose.)

Would it be fair to say that there are more Tiagra and Sora bikes out there than 105, Ultegra, and Dura Ace combined?

In my experience 105 is also fine, and there's no reason to avoid it. I usually go for Ultegra, but if I can't find what I need I'll settle for 105 (or, sometimes DA).

Tiagra 4700 (2 x 10) on the bike I ride most.

It’s fine. Solid, reliable, shifts well.

4700 on my new flat bar setup

not sure about flat bar approach yet, but am sure the the FD, RD, and the flat bar shifters work really well. 4700 STI has 11 speed spacing with 10 cog cassette.
