I also have a PDW (Portland Design Works) tail light that I really like.

if you go cygolite, this is the part you need to convert the hypershot/hotshot fixed mount into an easily transferable between bikes mount

I've been happy with my Leyzne Zecto Max Rear that has 8 modes and up to 250 lumens. Battery lasts long. My previous experience with Cygo hasn't been great - two Hotshots that died after a year.

If you have an aero seatpost, the Niterider Sentry 260 is excellent with long strap and rubber back to reduce rub. Besides 260 lumens, it has the best side profile of any bike light.

I use one of these as a front light. They do work well & last a long time.

The Rotlicht is the best tail light I have found regardless of price. Brightens up and becomes solid when you brake. Plenty bright without being insanely bright. Easy to mount. German construction.

This it the answer! The Rotlicht is a fantastic light. It also comes in a Max version with a double sized battery for those really long rides.

I have a bunch of friends using the Varia, and they love them. I personally haven't tried this yet, but it's on my list.

This. The ideal light if you just want to buy once.

When I am commuting early in the morning, I use a Lezyne Strip Drive mounted on my front fork and a cheap MEC rechargeable light on my handlebar. I like to light up the road immediately in front of me and in the distance.
I used to use a Lezyne Strip Drive red rear, but I switched to a Garmin Varia. The Lezyne is kept in my commuter bag just in case I forget to charge the Varia.

For trail rides, I use the Lupine system. It is the Wilma series. It lights up everything, however it is probably blindingly bright for road usage.

+1 for Cygolite. They are all I've ever used though so I can't compare. Never had any break, but I've lost two. Once to a lose bolt on the mount (my fault) and another to a homeless person (also my fault).

I don't own one, but have been interested in this light. According to a review on Bontrager's website, this indeed is a problem...

"My issue with the light is its inability to be seen at various angles, especially from the sides."

I've been using the Bontrager Flare R for about 2 years now and I like it. No issues thus far, and it has side visibility.

i just bought an ion 200 RT front light. the low light now with DST makes me feel like I need more front end visibility

really like the size but the mounting strap is a pita and super tight on a 31.8 bar
