2005 Moots Vamoots SL

Whelp, I was lucky enough to score my dream ride a few weeks ago. 2005 Moots Vamoots SL stock size 59 with a 58.5 effective top tube.

Picked it up as a complete bike in it's original form from the original owner in Steamboat Springs. After a complete strip and new build, this is how it sits. Eventually, I'd like to get it sub at 15lb or less, but initially, the focus was to get it road ready, comfortable and reliable. As it sits, it ticks all those boxes and some, the Moots effect cannot be overstated in my mind. Even being the lightest bike in my stable it's plenty stiff while retaining tons of comfort on rough roads. I am not featherweight and today I took it for a spin running errands with 30lbs extra in my backpack and could not detect a hint of flex. It's also a hair smaller than my other road bikes, but the short fork rake, setback post etc. have me rethinking my bike fit entirely....

As an aside, the Hermes Sport wheels we're a pleasant surprise addition to the build. I bought them a few days ago from an ex-velonews writer who purchased them following her review. It looks like the company has since gone under, which is a shame because they are great wheels with some pretty cools tech. They use a novel magnetic mechanism to maintain tension on the ratchets, angular sealed bearing, are tubeless and 24mm wide while weighing ~1600g. These are also my first truly wide wheels, which I am sure adds to the ride quality of the bike overall, the 25mm Vittorias swell to 27mm+ and ride fantastic. But enough blathering, on to the build list:

And pics of how it stands currently:

Hope you enjoy yours as much as I've enjoyed mine.

If moots still has any clear out forks they ride great.

If you are ever interested in one with a longer head tube, we could swap.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, they only have the RSL forks available, and I just get on board with the aesthetic of the sloped shoulders. If anyone has a standard moots road fork in 40mm rake they would like to unload, please let me know, missed out on the on Buzz posted on the classifieds today

Beautiful! Congrats! A Vamoots SL is a dream bike for me as well. I'm in the process of going through and rebuilding my standard Vamoots. They're such great bikes.

As it sits today. Now with Red22, Enve fork and RSL stem. Clocks in right at 7kg and rides like a dream

The only thing that bike needs is a matching Moots fork ;-)
