First Ride! Cycling on the Restored Antique 1927 Hercules Speed King Path

05/28/2022

Hey, Charles!
Just finished the video of the completed Hercules! Thanks very much again for selling me the bike and for the help hunting down the decals!

First Ride! Cycling on the Restored Antique 1927 Hercules Speed King Path Racer Racing Bicycle! - YouTube

I was given this Hercules bicycle when living in Seattle in the 1980’s
Had a local frame builder resray and match the orignial colors on frame and rechrome the crankset and seat post (L shape)
I rebuild the wheels but Joe rebuilt with new rims wood over an aluminum rim. Original Rims were steel over a wood rim
Coaster rear brake which I also took apart and relubed
And there it sat for years
Finally I sold to Joe for the cost of paint and chrome
Joe took it to getting it back on the road again
Way before the CR cutoff date of 1983
Enjoy the video
There are three total videos showing the various stages

What an excellent video! The bike is truly a piece of history, too.

Thanks for posting, Charles, and thanks again for selling me the bike, taking care of it all these years, and for all the help hunting down the original decals!

From what I can tell, it seems like skip tooth was mostly an American thing. Most of the turn of the century bikes I've seen from France and the UK don't use it. My brother has a 1919 French bike (Claude Delage) that's also not skip tooth. Go figure. Thanks for posting the screen shot of the bike, Rob!

What a cool video and back story! On a related note, you must come from some kind of radio background. You’ve got some silky smooth pipes.
