I don't put it on my face bc it'll probably run into my eyes. But yes it works very well riding and surfing.

I’ve been using neutrogena sport face for a while even for the body, supplementing with their sheer touch on less exposed and less sweaty areas.
It works really well with good staying power even in hot days. Not the cheapest but I also don’t want to cheap out on something that serious. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

EltaMD is also what my entire family use. It was recommended by two Dermatologists at a teaching/research hospital in NorCal. Both of them and most of, if not all, their nurses use the same. Yes, It ain't cheap but still better than having pre-melanoma growth surgically removed. I have been under the knife 5 times. Now I get checked every 6 months. People with fair skin are especially vulnerable.
There are generally two types of sunscreen: Chemical or mineral. Both dermatologists recommend to go with mineral-based. These are the ones that says titanium or zinc. The SPF number is meaningless once it's above 30, according to the doctors. Quote:

Consumer Reports does testing and ratings of sunscreens each year -- sprays, oils, creams, mineral based, etc. I haven't caught up with the latest but Anthelios (La Roche-Posay) was at the top two years ago, followed, closed behind, by Coppertone Waterbabies (at a fraction of the price). I use both, and enjoy de-gunking afterwards in the shower even more.

which product?
The one I saw online had octinoxate as well, not just minerals, and that is both bad for coral reefs/environment and some studies are worrisome for impact on hormone/endocrine systems.
I'm currently using a paste-like stick from the John Wayne Cancer Foundation, it's 25% zinc oxide, but I'd like to find something easier to apply. |

EltaMD Sport. Sunscreen sucks but skin cancer is worse. Had it twice in the past 10 years and UCSF dermatologist suggested EltaMD. The kind of person I’d least suspect to be in the pockets of big pharma.

Most of my rides are solo, so my way of trying to tilt the table in my favor is to do my rides after 5 PM. Makes for some pretty warm and humid weather, but it also limits the exposure to the most harmful rays.
It varies widely with time of year and location, but in general, this is true: |

I am not putting homosalate, avobenzone and/or oxybenzone into my system.
Or benzene. |

Added bonus is that traffic at 5:30am tends to be nonexistent whereas it's truly insane (in every way possible) at 5:30pm. |
