Tearing down a bike for resale--and getting nostalgic?
Am I the only one who feels a little sad while stripping down a bike that I have put a fair amount of miles on?
I'm not riding it, so it is time for it to go. Or so it seems. It's not that you want to go back, but.... Last edited by paredown; 05-28-2022 at 02:07 PM. |

Why would you 'strip it down' if you have a nice history with the bike? It still (should) work as good as it has all along. If you want to ride something newer, ride it. But don't restomod a complete and correct bike from another era. If you are starting with a bare frameset that's the builders choice for sure. Last edited by witcombusa; 05-31-2022 at 08:16 PM. |

I usually have second thoughts when I sell a bike. I sometimes do get nostalgic while stripping down or packing something, but it really just depends on the relationship I had with the bike.

I can sell bikes. No problem. It's fun for me as that means I get to build up another one.
It's musical instruments I can't seem to get rid of. Holy moly, do I have a couple of closets full. |

I started making guitars 2002. Gave a few to starving or young players, but talk about spawning children you can't let go... made 15 Tele variants, gave 3 away. have 7-8 bodies and a bunch of necks I could fret. But just like frames and groupos. I am a feared of the space they all take up if made whole...

I just went through the tear down/sell thing with two bikes that I really liked. I put a lot of thought and emotion into the acquisition, building and riding them. It was hard to part with them.
