Well after contemplating my honoree for five pages, I had to rule out some nominees before I made my choice
The Most Interesting Man in the World Well I thought he would be a good choice, but after thinking about it long and hard, I realized I would get tired of listening to trivia all day long Gimmenee Crickets I spend all day long with Gimmenee Crickets I thought I may as well go riding with him, but then I realized I ride with Gimmenee Crickets all the time...he helps me get flats, rarely helps changing them...Gimmeneez Marco Polo Quickly ruled him out, I need to be home for dinner I'll end up in Argentina before I know it Soooo.....the drum roll please Phil Leggett Many times I go riding and I run the history of bikes through my head. This guy would have stories to tell, and I could chime in a little bit That's my choice I ruled out all the uber famous people, I really wouldn't have much to say that they already haven't heard. But I would love to get some autographs |

I didn't have enough screen resolution to tell what the bikes were. Otherwise, I would have said that Greg Lemond was posting here under an alias, and he wanted to ride with the guy with all the cool old bikes that he can ride at a minimum of 19 mph

Tough Call.
Most is too difficult for me, so off the top of my head, Among the living, i really would enjoy a ride with the Hampsten boys in a beautiful european setting, that would be fun. Among the past - I think Gino Bartali would be a great guy to cruise some miles with a chat. Imagine getting his perspective on some of the modern challenges we face.

Gino Bartali would be cool. Back in the late 80’s he was brought in for a race in Toronto as a special guest / podium presenter. He only spoke Italian though, still…nice to see a legend in person. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I think of current pros I'd love to ride with Sagan and Oss. Their humour and energy are infectious and their stories would be enthralling. And I'd get a good workout too.
Past pros... Would still love to ride with Lemond. Always been a huge fan and respect him a lot. I've raced against a bunch of pros from the 80s/90s but never Lemond. |

Glynn.
The man who, as an outwardly grumpy 50 something, took me and a couple of other annoying 14 year old riders under his wing and turned us into a half-decent racers eventually, but more importantly gave us a love for the sport that's lasted 25 years and more. He was a miserable b*gger, and never said anything better than 'not a bad effort', but was always at every race, picked us up from our houses, explained again how to adjust our derailleurs, spent hours tweaking our bikes, and almost had a heart attack when Dave H and I went off the front from the gun at Wolverhampton (and it almost worked as well). I'll never forget his face :-) That we fell out and then hardly spoke is a great sadness. Hard to believe he's been gone best part of a decade :-/ Gosh, that hit me somewhere I didn't expect. |

For me the couple names that come up first are:
Fernando Alonso. The prime reason is that he seems to be a thinker, and I think he'd answer questions thoughtfully, as long as they weren't too annoying. And the other thing is when he posted he did a century it took him about 5 hours. So I suppose I might be able to stay with him for a bit. lol. Lemond. Because he enjoys a good conversation. And I imagine he'll wait if he drops me. And if I could go back in time... I'd love to do the SUNY Purchase Tuesday Night Sprints with my team at the time. The massive leadouts, 3-4-5-6 guys, absolutely committed teammates, everyone knowing what they needed to do, and the thrill of winning a sprint because of the guys.... and then to be able to do such sprints 10-15 times in a night... just the best. |
