He's a local rider returning from River Road, as opposed to a flaneur tourist coming in from Fairfield. I would guess that he's on the To Be Determined CRCA club team, but I don't know for certain.

I would say it´s kind of maccabre , flaneuring around areas where people are in any kind of suffering. There are certain things you don´t ask.. if you must, go, do it and tell the story later.

I admit that I wasn't outraged by the OP's question. After all, the mayor of NYC travels every morning with a police escort from the Upper East Side to Prospect Park in Brooklyn so that he can get some exercise.

Mayor Bill de Blasio of New York called me this morning a little out of breath, feet pounding in the background, on his daily walk in Prospect Park. It’s the kind of stubbornly pointless personal ritual his critics in the media find incredibly annoying — couldn’t he just stay home at Gracie Mansion and clap for health care workers like his neighbors?

Got to ride all the way into CP, onto CP south before pulling out before the athletes went back into the park to head to the finish line at tavern.
I second that. I was only a backup rider for camera crew spotters, but I still got to ride during the Marathon. Riding up 2nd Ave was absolutely amazing. The whole experience was unreal!

Our mayor defends his daily trips from Gracie Mansion to Prospect Park in order to get exercise:

https://nypost.com/2020/04/06/de-bla...irus-outbreak/

Quote:
Mayor de Blasio insisted that even during the coronavirus pandemic he opts to exercise in Brooklyn’s Prospect Park — 12 miles from Gracie Mansion — in order to remain an effective leader.

"I go get my exercise like everyone else," the mayor said on NY1’s "Inside City Hall."

"I go to my home neighborhood. It’s part of what helps me just continue to work nonstop," he said. "I’m on conference calls pretty much the whole time."

Hizzoner was responding to a question from a viewer about why he’s driven to Brooklyn for a walk in the park when his Upper East Side home abuts acres of waterfront parkland...

Haha, classic example of a nimby Manhattanite claiming rights to their "home" that they probably moved to from Ohio four years ago, sneering at all of the tourists in their way.

Dude, I lived in that town before you stopped reading comic books. Drove a cab for a year. You're no better than me.

The previous day was spent going over the logistics and then doing a couple laps around the park doing radio checks. Reception was excellent.

It is a cool pic and absolutely illustrates the kind of communications technology needed to "keep things going" for huge number of runners.
