Good example, that’s fringe. Weisan, do you own one of his bikes? They’re pretty cool.

I'd say my altruiste would qualify. Not sure if Gabe is building anymore, his website is down. From nahbs winner to nowhere in just a few years.

His workmanship is great.

Other brands True North- even though hugh has been around her close to 25 years.

Out on a limb on the next one - the "new" mariposa.

Oh, what about Strawberry? – https://www.strawberrybicycle.com

I've got a friend here in town that rides one. Not sure on the history, but I'd never seen or heard of 'em until I saw hers.

Every bike in the "custom gallery" here is obscure.

It´s ignorance of the masses and not obscurity of any of those fine bike builders.

So many: Winter for sure (Eric Estlund), Bishop, Stoemper, and others I can't even remember just now (how's that for obscure?).

Obscure needs to be defined. There are obscure brands out there that we all know about because they've been around for a decade or more: Hampsten, Zanconato, Gaulzetti, Speedvagen/Vanilla, Kirk, even Pegoretti. Those are obscure in that you very, very rarely see one on the road. Of those I just listed, besides the ones I own, I've only ever seen one of them, a Kirk, on the road. But most of us know about them because we've seen samples of them posted on the forums.

Obscure seems to mean "small, emerging, trending brands getting some new publicity."

It also means old, important, historical but not being sold at my LBS or advertized everywhere.

DannAdore Bikes. Hand built and painted by a reclusive genius economist-turned-bike builder. So exclusive ...that they’re not for sale. I should know. I asked him about one several times and was told “no.” Finally he agreed to sell me an ENVE road fork and fix a busted spoke for me.

Still hoping for a “DannAdore” tee shirt with Mt. Diablo in the background sometime soon ...

I always wanted one of those and Dave is a great guy. I am an odd (small) size and didn't want to deal with the long lead time to get it made. How does yours ride?
