Facing ENVE gravel fork (flat mount)

Hello Paceline,

Has anyone had their shop face their ENVE fork for flat mount brake calipers?

I’m looking at Park Tool’s disc brake facing tool video, and most of their flat mount examples, have the thread posts that protrude the plane of the fork.

With ENVE, that threads are flush with the mating surface. Would facing just happen a certain diameter around the bolt threads?

ENVE’s installation manual doesn’t really go into any detail about facing.

Best,
Alex

Send it back to enve and tell them to fix it. The thought that this is something that's remotely acceptable is bull ****.

Sadly 9 out of 10 flat mount or post mount disc forks aren't on the same plane. Some are crazy bad.

I'm not sure I really understand why flat mount is so much harder for bike companies to make than post mount. There was one road bike at my lbs that the customer decided to write off because of the mounts. The rear flat mount was visibly out of flat. But a fork should be easier to face than the rear mount.

I asked Carl Strong how they handle the brake mounts on their Pursuit frames. I asked if he faced them on the frame and Enve fork. He replied "face them? We machine them to make sure they are perfect". I suppose many custom builders do the same. Major manufacturers...
