A good interview from one of our local legends: Bike racing content
I used to love to find this guys wheel in the peloton because as a tall guy myself he was even taller and was a smooth wheel with a good draft, that is at least for as long as I could hold it.

The nicest guy, a super talented rider/racer and a fixture in the DC road scene.
Great video interview of a local legend. And yes, he always seemed to be in great form. I would look for his wheel when I did the DC area 10am weekend Sat/Sun group ride on a regular basis. It was always better to be somewhere right behind him so you know you weren't working too much out front and so you would be ready for the move when it happened because he was always in it. |

I started road racing in DC in the 90s and early 2000s. There was never a moment where I came even close to holding Dave's wheel, but he had something kind to say every time our paths crossed. What a classy guy!

Winning on 10 speed?!?!? Un-possible!
That was really enjoyable to watch/listen. |

It was interesting to see how his training plan works for him. The best years I had racing about a decade ago I was on the old school LSD in the winter and then just get out and race as often as you could during the season. Never did intervals myself or periodicity training. But I had also joined in on a very fast Wednesday evening ride that included the local University team, and in fact one kid who went on to world tour pro racing, lot's of cat 1/2's and just fast recreational riders and that was probably the best training possible. Basically they are like mock races where you are in a fast break away. It essentially covered the interval training but without all the rules and the added benefit of gaining experience in fast groups.
