Bora wheels arrived from Europe in a crushed box, Use? Send back?

I thought getting these from an online retailer (Cheap) would be safer than used on ebay for example but they crammed these beautiful wheels into a really narrow, ill fitting box bulging out the sides with no padding. They were in wheel bags and the seem fine though. They are true and smooth and beautiful. I know they are strong but campy ships them in sturdy wheels boxes for a reason.. Any thoughts on safety? I can send them back they they have no more in stock for an exchange. They were an impulse buy at an amazing price. Thanks for looking,

If there is no viable damage, and they are round and true, I should think that they are perfectly safe to use.

I would be looking for bent spokes and/or damage to the rim itself. If they look normal to you then I'd say everyone got lucky.

That's the first thing I thought. And the reason they don't ship in sturdy Campy boxes is because they buy OEM wheels out the back door of bike manufacturers. That's how they offer those prices.

I think the op just highlighted the front wheel in the pics, but you can see the back wheel (spoke pattern) to the side in one of the pics.

Bike24, in my experience, 75% of the time has shipped in crappy boxes. The products inside have been always untarnished.

We buy the product not the box. If the wheels are fine, the decision is a no brainer.

This mirrors my experience with them. The first time it was a set of Zonda's just thrown in a box with one piece of brown paper only sort of separating them. They came through OK though.

Then against my best judgment I rolled the dice on a set of Ritchey Zeta Classic wheels that I could not find anywhere else. They arrived just as poorly packed and with the box damaged and half open. They had just thrown in the plastic bags holding the skewer and that opened in shipment and not all the parts made it too me. I get reimbursed a small amount of money easy enough but I will be hard pressed to buy wheels from them again.

That box is indeed in pretty bad shape - I'd remove the tape and put it in the recycle bin.

The wheels, I'd put on the bike.

Thanks Dave and everyone! They seem perfect so I guess when I pump up a tire I'll know- I guess I'll keep them. I worked in a gallery for years and shipped fragile artwork so I know how to pack things, and I just can't believe these bone heads can't invest a few $ in wheel boxes. I send them a pretty honest review of their packaging.
