Bitex Freehub Maintenance
I have three rear wheels built with Bitex (BikeHubStore) RAR12 rear hubs. The hubs have performed perfectly with no issues on road or gravel. To keep them working well, I would like to remove the freehubs and clean/inspect/relube them. I would like recommendations for grease or oil to lube the freehub pawls. There's no information on Bitex's website and very little solid info in general from a Google search.
Thanks, Greg |

cleaning everything really well is the key.
i use moto hypoid gear oil. it's literally made for sliding contact metal interfaces. it's great (and totally overkill) for pawl type freehubs.

I used chain lube on these hubs, it was fine. Don't use grease, the pawls will bind and you'll have a bad time.

What weight/viscosity? (Mobile 1 oil comes in everything from 0W-20 to 75W-140, plus a Mobile 1 grease).
And what advantage does a synthetic oil give in this application? |

Shimano freehub grease, just used some on White hubs, seems to work.
It's Bonafide. https://www.excelsports.com/main.asp...jor=6&minor=20 |

Been using Slick Honey for these applications. It's a light to mid weight grease, like Shimano compatible with o-rings, seals and is just heavy enough to stay in place.

Been using it successfully for only about 20 years so maybe not enough experience mark...
