Now, this was discussed on a recent Campy thread as well, and the consensus there was that many people will say they want something in silver finish, but most current new bikes are carbon, and the current fashion is dark components. Would enough people buy a high-end silver group for Campy or Shimano (or SRAM, I suppose) to justify offering that option?

When they had just released R8000, I was thinking about changing my groupset, and I had silver components on the bike previously. I briefly debated 9000 vs 8000, but 9000 was still pricier, and there were some little improvements to 8000 that mattered to me (mainly shorter lever throw). So I went with the latter.
I love the 9000 "mirror" finish. It definitely distinguished itself from ultegra 6800. With R8000 and R9100, you have gray vs shinier gray. Kinda disappointing

I don’t know about disappointing. Ultegra has a very nice, slick, glossy finish. I adapted quite nicely. I’m sure DA looks better.

I'll take the DA 9000 crankset!

Good Luck!

If I get tired enough of waiting for the new DA, I might buy a new bike with the current DA to speed up Shimano's release!

The next generation Dura Ace will be announced any day now since I just ordered a 9100 shifter/derailler set. Its been happening to me since 7800 came out.

I am looking forward to Di2 DT shifters, with syncro shift triples
and half step gearing options.

Haven't seen the production models and won't comment further than what I said a couple months ago.

We should all be mindful that 2021 is Shimano's 100th Anniversary year...
