Why do folks delete the $sold price in their listings?

Been wondering this for a while; why do folks delete their asking price (or the entire post) once something has been sold?

I've often wondered the same thing. From a seller's perspective, it's good to have comps.

I don't. I post the price that it sold for, shipping, and where I sold it.

agreed - what's sold is sold. I guess it will leave people pretty peeved if the same frame comes up for sale two years later at a higher price, but for the times that that would happen, I don't think it is something to worry about. I would rather see what an XYZ sold for so I know what to expect in the future. If someone adds a 20% 'opportunity tax' to that, so be it. I will pay it if think it is worth the premium.

If you don't people keep asking you if it is still available. Even if you write sold right afterwards. That is why i started doing it.

if i sell something, it is no one's business but mine and the buyers to know how much it sold for. yes, i could be "nice" and leave the sold price for posterity and for the sake of market comparison. but i dont.

Do whatever but don't bump your posts ahead of everything else that's still available to say "sold"

Simple fix. Use the "Go Advanced" button when you edit your listing. Put "SOLD" in the title and SOLD at the top of the listing. Won't bump the listing and makes it easy for people to see it's sold without clicking in.

Just for clarity, the OP's question was about the asking price, not the price for which the item sold.

I choose to let it stay for the benefit of others listing similar items. And yes, please always do update the listing title to reflect that it's no longer available as described in this sticky classifieds thread (and don't bump the thread).

This is the way.

Also, just because I leave my asking price doesn't mean that is what it sold for.

Seriously?? Is it such a big deal? It's not like you're talking about a multi-million dollar business deal.

You can't even get Amazon to tell you what a bike part price was when the last sale was made, nor tell you what their price will be tomorrow.
