Thoughts on Ibis Hakka MX

Thinking about ordering one of these. Any input from owners or mechanics who have worked on them?

Ticks a lot of boxes for me. Only negative I've found is the post mount fork, but that's really not a big deal for me. I might even swap that out in the future for a Rodeo Labs Spork with rack mounts.

I also have looked at this bike. Very nice and great price for what it offers. I had a couple Ibis Mojo and can tell you this much Scot Nicol is tops for CS. Did a warranty claim over gmail chat with no issues and he even let me size down on the new frame. Really a great company.

I like it- But I can't help but wonder *** on the fork???
Why not make your own fork with fender mounts and flat?
Not like the Enve cross fork is better than anything else or adds value to the bike.
If they can make handlebars and carbon rims with their own brand, they can certainly source a fork.

Yes, the bike looks very nice, but the fork is whack. I would never buy a new bike with different fork mounts (as a person waiting to buy a Campy hydro group)

whats with everyone aversion to post mount brakes?

post mount calipers will always be around, are compatible with all mtb and road levers, and dont have any downside compared to flat mount calipers besides a few grams...

I think the issue is the difference in the mounting “standard” of the front (post) and back (flat). Would make more sense to have them both post or both flat.

they will, on the MTB side. Road is a diff story. Campy is not doing them, new shimano also isn't.

I am with you, they both brake the same, flat does look a little better but I like that with post is so easy to go 180mm or 203mm ect.


but I also think its silly that the front is post and the rear is not.

They didn't want to produce their own forks and flat mount is a better standard (and look) for the frame. Force CX1, which is what most people will use on a frame like this right now, is easy to order with one flat and one post. I know, because I did it by accident...

PS, given a choice, I would also build this bike with a Spork.

After reading the Rodeo Labs blog on everything they went through to get the Spork through testing and to market, I understand why a company would go with an aftermarket option.

Is there anyone making an aftermarket flat mount that you would consider equivalent to the Enve?

I have a Hakkalugi canti and LOVE it. So much so, that I've bought a Hakka MX frameset, sitting in the bike cave. I'm still contemplating build options, so haven't hung a single component. Campy H11 2X? SRAM 1X? XTR Di2 1X? I appreciate that they've gone to the T47 BB standard too.

I can't blame Ibis for not wanting to develop their own fork, when ENVE has the expertise, brand recognition, and likely pricepoint they sought. ENVE will have a flat mount fork in no time. Count me among those who don't think it's a big deal to have post up front and flat in the back. However, I'd consider a Whisky flat mount as a possible replacement, if flat mount was critical-or running fenders. The Spork looks interesting, but doubt I'd ever use all it's options.

Ah- wasn't aware that the Whisky #9 came in flat mount. Thanks for pointing it out.

I agree with you that Enve will likely have a flat mount available soon.

Post mount isn't a big deal. I'm just thinking the options for post mounted hydraulic calipers is going to get pretty limited in the future
