Putting aside the SR v. DA question, I never got the Aethos. Isn't it just what all manufacturers had ten years ago - a superlight non-aero carbon bike? Other than accepting wider tires, I don't see what separates it from a Parlee Z5 or any of the high end Canontrekalizeds of 2012.

A little over 10 years ago a top of the line Cannondale/DA (Red?) was what, US$12K.

So a Spec with Campagnolo wireless with awesome Campagnolo wheels.......inflation adjustment......US$15.5K is reasonable in comparison.

If I was going to risk divorce for something that expensive with 2 wheels and a lot of Italian content I'd go get a Ducati Monster+ and save my self $3k over the Specialized and be smug about it actually being made in Italy.

I still can't get over a non-custom made in Taiwan frame and off the shelf parts being more expensive than a made in *Italy* motorcycle, and a very very sexy one at that.

And if you lay it down the Ducati will probably cost less to fix.

I would say Dario Pegoretti would probably approve of this paint job, Big S did good there!

This frameset color is really pretty interesting. I like that they're at least including premium paint jobs with these.

Exactly, the Aethos is acknowledgement and an offering for everyone who knows that bikes were correct 10 yrs ago, and since then most changes are marketing fluff. e.g. One-piece cockpits that make stem angles and handlebar width configs quite challenging if looking to obtain the correct fit. Proprietary seatpost shapes and clamps that when something breaks a couple years later you can't find a replacement of the same shape, or install a new clamp. Enormous manufacturer logos on the downtube, etc
