That is some genius marketing. Chappeau! to whoever came up with this.

The Escape Collective (the independent source of cycling journalist which doesn't take any industry money) is a bit underwhelmed by Super Record WRL:

And Ronan McLaughlin is a known Campyphile.

Gear inches

I ride on the flat a bunch and I usually push something like a 65 to 70 inch gear ratio. Some call it the magic 70.

So 39 x 15 = 68.3 and 42 x 16 = 69.0

Everyone talks about top end and low end when discussing gear ratios. Those are the extremes. i tend to think around what do I usually ride.

If I had a 32 or 29 inner ring that would put me into this ring and cog combo:

29 x 11 = 69.3
32 x 12 = 70.1
34 x 13 = 68.7

That is some serious cross gearing. I suppose you can switch to the big ring. But that again is a cross chain situation. I am running 52 by 36, which is compact enough, otherwise it seems to be a cross chain situation on the flat.

Ok the big ring break down is as follows, maybe not that bad after all. i still tend to picj gearing that puts me inthe middle of cassette on the flat.

45 x 17 = 69.6
48 x 18 = 70.1
50 x 19 = 69.2

Exactly the first thing I thought.

I haven't looked at the SRAM patent portfolio, but I'm guessing some of it is Campy licensing the wireless patents.

Also, I'm not sure if your comparison is of value, since I doubt anyone really cares what the MSRP for DA is since most of their component sales are through the OEM channel, whereas Campy is OEM on only a handful of brands that nobody is buying anyways.

1. No, switching to the big ring would put you right in the middle of the cassette.
2. Why would you not normally be in the big ring on the flats?

vs eTap

Long time campy fan - but a bit underwhelmed. And the costs are just too much for me.

Looks like a nicer eTap, which still has a rim brake option. I prefer the shift layout of eTap, but the aesthetics of campy...

OK, big ring it is

45 x 17 = 69.6
48 x 18 = 70.1
50 x 19 = 69.2

Maybe I am old school and used to 53 bigs. Having 12 in back changes the gear game.

Even the Bike Radar and Cycling Weekly reviews are less than glowing.

For $5300 the photos make it look like a bird crapped on the crankset.

It looks like two of the digits got transposed. The actual Q factor of the new cranks is 147.5mm (2.0mm wider than previous cranks).

The previous H11 and 12spd cranks had kind of an in-between chainline, halfway between the expected chainlines for 130mm and 135mm rear wheel axle widths, so that the cranks could be used with either wheel width. But as this new group is disc only, and has a wider Q, it's a good bet that the new chainline is setup for 135mm wheels only.

First blush with pricing..undoutedly it'll come down to 'about' what DA 12s disc is..but....

$6000 for a stainless, mechanical watch?..what a friggin joke.
Get a Seiko!!
$44k for an old tech Ducati? What a friggin joke,
Get a Honda!!

teehee
Granted, around these parts, there are people who will show up with $44k in cash for an old Honda S2000! When Big H is on a roll, they're on a roll (at least before they moved into the old Oldsmobile factory...)
