Semi OT - Riding with our thoughts/ brains?

This story came up on the morning news today but looks like it has been reported on last year.
The Star has an article but there's a paywall.

Had me thinking (a bit cuz of the recent Campy threads), would we one day control shifting and braking....with our thoughts....?

I hope not. I have no desire to have to focus that hard on my ride

I liked this study on the possibilities of converting brain signal to action particularly in cases where shaving 50-100ms off reaction time might be significant. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4846799/

In bicycling I could see a number of problems trying to use decisions created in the mind before the body has reached a position required to support those actions such as heavy braking. Similar problems in turning which requires body movement.

I look forward to SRAM AXS One-With-The-Machine(TM) displacing the mechanical vs electric shifting debate with hand vs mind.
