This accident reminds of my High school buddy in the mid 60's on his Honda 50. Lady didn't see him coming pulled out in front of him in a station wagon. No helmet, went through the back glass landed in the front seat up against the dash. More broken bones than you can count, complete body cast for months. He was unconscious for a good long while, had to relearn how to talk all over again. He survived but it took a long time to recover, never did get all his mental capacity back.

That's really too bad. Rivera had posted rides on Strava showing him training with Bernal.

What's weird about Bernal's crash to me is that they were on TT bikes, and no one else crashed. If it was a tight paceline, the whole lot of them would have hit the deck.

A couple days before the crash, someone posted the team riding (hauling @ss) with two motorbikes and at least one team car in pursuit. It seems odd that with that many people looking out for the cyclists that there would be any crashes at all.

Here's a link to the Ineos team riding a few days prior:

Edit: LanterneRouge did a youtube video on Bernal's crash as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dd4P-ajSwIM

They actually saw the bus & some were yelling at Egan who did not hear as he was head down & hammering on the front I guess

It sounds like he is on the mend now, and out of the woods. But it sounds like the crash was even worse than originally reported.

TT Bikes, hate em, nothing about them reminds me why I love cycling. Keep them on closed course where they belong!

Bernal has been discharged and is recovering as an outpatient.
Glad to see him standing, even if it looks like the doctor is holding him up.

That last C2 surgery had me wondering if the ICU stay be lengthened. VG news that was not the case.

Wow who knows what will happen now.
He could come back 100% over time or end up like Froome never regaining his former glory. I would not blame him at all for retiring.
It does seem like TT bikes are involved in many of these serious outcomes.
It also seems like riders these days are pushing themselves or are being pushed to take greater risks.

x2, watched the YouTube video and the bus was parked on the side of the road, a somewhat busy road too. Seems like there could have been a better place for TT efforts, but that is behind us. Glad to see he is up and about.

Stopped for a legit drop off I read. So unfortunate he was so dialed/concentrated and ran right into it apparently. Who'd have expected that really..

Is there a video of the actual crash, or just the aftermath?
