Crown mounted cable stop or Mini Vs.

I suspect the steer tube has less to do with the problematic cable lengthening/shortening cycle that causes this chatter in comparison to the fore/aft flex of fork blades.

There is no way the top tube is lengthening.

brake chatter

Anything you do to shorten the cable length from the housing to the brakes themselves will solve the problem as ,what happens is you get a bouncing affect as the cable stretches a bit and contracts . The shorter the better ,helps with feel and faster braking as well. Just fixed the same thing on a c dale caad x

Besides installing a fork mount cable guide, I have now also changed brake pads from stock Avid shorty 4s to Kool Stop thin-line Salmon(orange) pads. I have then toed in. I now have no shudder and no squealing. The braking is also significantly improved, both the grab of the pads and the feel of braking, modulation, in my hands. Well worth the $35, approx., cost.
