Wheel build... what would you do?
I feel a little odd asking this since I already got oldpotatoe's opinion, and his should be enough, but... I still can't decide! So here we go...
I'm strongly considering picking up a carbon all-road disc wheelset, and I'm wavering on the hub and spoke combo I should go with. The options are:

Do what Old Potato says. What did he say?

#3. But I’d actually look for a screaming deal on used 240s for a few months first just to make sure!

Translation: I already have advice from someone that builds wheels and knows what he's doing, but I want to get the opinions of some random idiots on an online forum ...

I would save $125 and go with bitex. I have some bitex rim brake hubs on my main road bike and disc brake hubs on my gravel bike. They are light, relatively inexpensive, and have shown to last for a lot of riding.
That $125 could go towards bibs, a saddle, or some great tires to slap on the new wheels. |

With my latest bike I got a set of BTLOS wheels using DT 240 hubs and CXRay spokes. I could afford it so why not? I can't really justify them over Bitex hubs and cheaper spokes. I do really like the simplicity of maintenance of the DT hubs though. Be warned...the new EXP freehubs are LOUD!
I have WI T11 hubs on the rim brake bike. Great hubs and they look really nice. What I don't like is the fiddly way you adjust them. And, if you grab the rim and push, side to side, you can always feel a bit of movement. Not while riding though. WI says this is normal. If you feel movement at the axle it needs adjustment. But, if you feel it at the rim that is to be expected. I still don't like it...feels off to me. The DTs don't do that. Tim |

How are Bitex hubs to work on and replace bearings, swap freehubs? Are parts available over time?

Option #4 - Shamals, with legendary good campag hubs!
https://www.probikekit.com/bicycle-w...E&gclsrc=aw.ds Out of the options you listed, I would do the DT240 hubs with the pillar spokes. DT hubs are some of the best in the business and are very adaptable to different configurations if that situation ever comes up and you want to use the wheels with a different setup. I also appreciate how easy they are to work on and love the 54t ratchet option. Nothing wrong with bitex hubs though, they use standard sealed bearings and just work. I have a set with a pile of miles on them and they just keep going.

If ya got 2-3 months to wait and please add a bunch of $.
Yup, Bitex and Pillar. Great gear, spokes and hubs. Not 'worth' the $350 for 25 grams(least $ to most $). I like DT hubs and I use Sapim spokes but I also build a lot of wheels with Bitex hubs..My 'supplier' has Sapim spokes, long barrel, no threads, that I cut and thread myself..Pillar doesn't offer that from an supplier I have seen. Plus, they are about 3 months out Plus, they are way expensive Plus, Their hi-lo rears...geez, either makes the RH flange a little smaller or the LH flange a little larger..getting the LH spokes, for head in, into the LH spoke hole, past the RH flange and not scratch up the LH hub body is a challenge. Lotsa tape.

I went with 350s and Bitex on my last couple of disc builds and both were nice riding sets of wheels. I think I like the 350s a little better, but the bitex were also a nice riding set of wheels.

Peter, are the Pillar spokes mentioned here, 1420, what Pillar calls the Wing 20 on their web site? A J bend spoke with an aero profile? What nipples are you building with?
Are the Bitex hubs the BX106 front and rear? Thank you |

I have one Bitex wheelset and 4 Novatec, I have had no issues with any of them. I did the high-end hub thing in the past and just don't see the value. The cheaper hubs don't have the best bearings out of the box. They are easy and inexpensive to replace. I would go bitex with cxray for weight savings.
