1 of 1 Castellano SilkTi 700c gravel bike

This was the only one built for Interbike back before gravel bikes were popular

Not as rare as some, but somewhat esoteric.

This is a Rhygin Juke. Metax. Disc. With an Igle fork. SRAM 1x9 with Syncros cranks.

Never seen another Rhygin with discs.

I've been thinking about a drop bar + 650b conversion, tempted to go full Ekar... Now that I'm thinking about this, I might test fit some wheels tomorrow.

What's the rarest or most obscure bike in your collection?

I don’t have anything rare in my collection and I think the only bike I’ve ever owned that could be considered as such is below. I will say this is a really cool and enjoyable thread to read through. Some bikes are timelessly cool while others are a WT* was the builder thinking? Regardless, of my opinions, thanks for sharing!!

Awesome looking Pronto……I believe only one of two in that color combo.

I was going back and forth with the original owner over this one and he wasn’t ready to sell at the time…….not 2 weeks after I find a Pronto he decides to put it up for sale. Regretting not grabbing this one too.

If you ever decide to let it go, lmk……….

Probably very few DeKerf road bikes on the east coast as he is mainly a mtber builder from British Columbia. This one also has fork legs that go through the fork crown and that matches the chainstays. All fillet brazed minus seatpost lug. The color is a chartreuse that changes in sunlight.

This one; as best I've been able to figure out it's a 1976 Shimano team issue built by Nagasawa. If anyone has more info I'd love to hear it!

I built it w/ mostly 10-pitch (the seatpost, bb and headset are not, the drivetrain is).

my stainless lugged A*Train disc all-road

lugged 44mm head tube. I'll never see another one like it. Super plush and fun ride.

It doesn't mean I have money, or the inclination to own wall art. It just happened.
The same Christmas, I got a 20-lb box of Circus Peanuts. I was very happy then, too.

This is a Meral from about 1982 give or take. Francis Quillon (later of Cyfac, etc.) made this bike. It is such a nice riding bike with great handling. It’s one of those rare bikes that seems to have telepathic capabilities to go where you want it to just by thinking about it and without any physical input. The equipment is fun too as it is like a lot of French ( for their market) Campy bikes. That is, they sneak a few French parts in where they make sense…the Stronglight headset, the Simplex SLJ shifters, and the Tevano ( exceptionally nice and light) crankset.

Thanks. Speaking of couriers….
I attended Richmond, VA’s Bike Yard Sale once. You brought your own tables, grabbed a space on a nice lawn behind an art place, and engaged in naked bartering, buying, selling. Free. Cyclists of all types, grooving on the genre, but also finding often hilarious common ground.

The courier crowd was the hit. By far, the most colorful, irreverent, crude, jovial, unabashedly pragmatic bunch of folks you’d want to meet, knowingly selling the most beat up bike crap I’ve ever seen, without hesitation or purpose of evasion. As they sold completely worthless stuff, they accumulated a stash of “40s,” which appeared to be their primary goal. Secondary was not having to take anything home. I’m guessing there were a dozen couriers and associates, and when I left, they were up to 30 bottles.

My goal was to earn lunch for myself and +1. After we’d made Olive Garden money, we pitched in for a couple of Colt 45’s. At that point, I was forced to leave, so I tossed them a stack of tires and hit the road.

Great day. Thanks for reminding me.
