ot: mini warning REI Resupply
I think this part of their company is relatively new and it is not the same as their outlet store. I ordered a pair of water shoes. Of course they didn't fit. I assumed I could return at the store. Not. Buyer pays return shipping to Resupply.

Is the issue that you had to pay return shipping? It does cost money to send things in the mail.
Theres fuel costs, maintenance of vehicles, labor costs etc. Its not crazy to have to pay for that for something you knew had a big risk of not fitting correctly |

yes but
for all other REI purchases online you can return to local store. My local store is 5 minutes away, not $10 shipping away. Resupply returns must be shipped back.

If I bought something at REI, I'd assume I could return them to a brick and mortar store. Always have been. So this is a good warning.

i guess you did not look a their return policy. before i ordered from them, i checked and found out that one cannot return rei resupply goods at the store.
but good on you that you are bringing this return policy to everyone's notice. |

you'd hope
if this policy is different than their policy has been forever everywhere else in the company, they'd make it clear this is an exception.
Another reason Amazon owns the world...and Thursday night football.

To change the subject a bit, I'll throw this out there:
Unless we're talking about something that costs very little or a model I've bought before and I know works for me, when it comes to footwear I support my local bricks and mortar store, try it on there, and buy it from them. When that pair wears out I go ahead and buy it online. |

What is Resupply?

I think this is REI’s attempt to buy used gears (trade in) and resell using Resupply as a vendor? If not, please chime in.

'Sold as-is, no warranty'...is the big clue. For eddieF, how much did you save in these vs on their online store or in-store?

Patagonia has a returned-goods store, too. I'd rather by from them.

It's an odd corner of the business IMO.
I would never buy used clothing without being able to inspect it well in hand myself, the exception being some stuff sold by trusted pals here. I also think most people who shop at REI in general are the types that dont really need the $$ from selling their used clothing. It would be nice if REI accepted used clothing for a modest discount on new stuff and turned it around and donated good condition used outdoor gear to worthwhile charity organizations. I still like REI for a lot of reasons, but this used gear buy/sell part of the business, even if well intentioned, seems a bit misguided all around. IMO

I'm wearing used Merrills I bought through REI. They were advertised as used returns and were practically new when I received them. I had worn this model before and knew my size and how it would fit. They were about half price, and the places where I hike tear up shoes quickly.

I would have to agree with Angry. I was recently in the East Hanover REI which must have had three or four pairs of used HOKA’s. All were in varying states of decay for 2/3 to 1/2 msrp but none that I would consider buying. I can’t imagine buying a pair sight unseen and then being pumped when those came out of the box.

i did not save anything
It is costing me the price I paid plus 7.50 to return them.
Amazon sells slightly used stuff at a discount too. Pretty sure their free returns procedure applies.
