700x50mm (ish) Tires Options
Whats out there that's good? Looking for options for mixed surface (road/gravel/singletrack) use and bikepacking. I have a preference for tires that roll fast and ride nice.
I've mounted a set of old S-works renegades in 1.9/1.8 for now but I cant seem to find any more of them, plus the world has moved on. In digging around it looks like some choices available are... - Schwalbe G-One - Vittoria Tirreno (Zero/Dry/Mix, 50 & 54) - Vittoria Tirreno XC (2.1) - Michelin Power Adventure (48mm max) - Rene Herse, obviously, has slick and treaded options in 48/55mm - Specialized Pathfinder Pro (48mm) - Vittoria Mezcal (700x44, 29x2.1) - Conti Race King (2.1) - Schwalbe Thunderburt (2.1) - Continental Terra Hardpack (50mm) Any others out there? Teravail has a bunch of nice choices in the 700x47 size. A few tread patterns each with a couple of casing options. Cannonball, Rutland, etc.

American Classic 700x50 casing ends up around 47mm in practice. Maybe a bit heavier than others, but I've liked their higher volume offerings that I've tried. Many bikepacking miles over tarmac and dirt of all types on a Krumbein/Wentworth combo. Slicker, faster rolling options available if that's what you want.

Conti has the Terra Speed and Terra Trail in 45mm now. Might be a bit narrower than you want for the new bike.

Its an option, I still need to try the 40mm tires on my other bike to see what I think. They may also be a bit too fast wearing for loaded riding but life is too short for 60tpi sidewalls.

Michelin Power Gravel 700x47 tires are extremely excellent and come in at 48.5 or 49mm on 23mm ID rims. Recommended. Come in at about $65 each.

Pathfinder Pro 700cx47 or Vittoria Terreno Dry G2.0 700cx50.
The industry is still iterating the 700cx50 size and most of the current options are overweight junk that is heavier and slower than 29x2.1/2.0 MTB tires. |

Will the new bike clear a 2.0 RaceKing (50mm) or 2.0 Mezcal (52mm?)?
I have 2.2 Maxxis Rekon Race in the basement, if you want something a bit wider as a stop-gap until you find the perfect 50mm. |

I am using a set of Schwable G-One Speeds at 50mm.
Highly recommend if you are looking for a RH alternative for supple, fast rolling tires. Very minimal dimpled tread. If you want something a bit more aggressive, Gravel King SK 50mm Also great, a bit of over kill for the dirt riding I do. But great on gravel. Will be looking to offload a lightly used pair (100 mi) shortly. |

I rode the Gravel King Plus for over a year and was happy with it on dirt and small gravel. No issues with wear or tread, holding air, or being tubeless.
I started carrying gear for all-day and multi-day rides and switched over to Mezcal 2.1s. |

Oracle Ridge
I have a pair of 48s on one of my bikes. After one ride they seem very good. |

The race king would fit nicely in there, and weirdly it has significantly less rolling resistance than any of the fast 700x50mm tires - and the Mezcal isnt far off. @Indy - I've been using the g-one all around for a few years on my other "gravel" bike, an older specialized crux. Great tire. Schwalbe Thunderburt may be another good option. |

The 700cx44 Mezcal is a great tire but it is true to size and doesn’t plump much on wide rims. The terreno dry is nice because it hits all the ISO sizes at and around 50mm.

Conti Race King
Conti makes the race king in a 29x2.0
