Are Chris King No Thread Set Bearings replaceable?

Are Chris King No Thread Set Bearings replaceable? I've developed "indexed steering" with my 1/8 headset. I'm having trouble finding bearings labeled expressly for this.

You can try to clean them: https://chrisking.com/blogs/news/how...-king-bearings But if the races are shot you'll have to send the headset back to CK for service.

I have gotten bearings for the newer drop set, does not seem to be available for the older press in cups.

Did you try this?

King really wants you to service the bearings with the instructions linked above. If your bearings truly are shot, you'll need to send your headset in for service - they only sell replacement bearings for the dropset line, which are made for frames with integrated cups. If your seals are roached, they will sell you replacements.

They'll probably fix it for the cost of shipping, FWIW.

Bearings are shot. As I said, indexed steering not rough bearings.

Thought about that. Don't want to be "that guy" but the graphics would be upside down.

The bearings are made by Chris King for Chris King, and are not available for DIY install - remove the headset, send it to OR, they'll install new bearings for you and your steering will be as good as new!

They are talking about rotating each cup 90*, not swapping the bottom to the top. If your detent is near center, this can relocate the problem where it's not noticeable.

But the bearings can be replaced, you just need to send it in.

Wow, they even come in green... I'm looking at around $120 and a couple weeks to replace the bearing so this is an option.

I agree..the idea that you have to take a HS out(have a proper tool?), send to maker, have bike off the road, re-install cups(have a proper tool?)just to replace HS bearings seems nuts to me. BUT CK is the king of proprietary 'stuff'.

Gotta remember what a HS does..hold fork on and allows a few degrees of left-right Hbar movement.
