Can we for once have a 'scandal' that doesn't use 'gate' in it?

Watergate was like 50 years ago and I would say there are at least 100 scandals under the previous US administration that could 'trump' watergate as a nomenclature for future scandals.

Sorry, all these stupid 'gate' suffixes just chafe my junk like a leather chamois in a rain storm.

Corkgate sounds like wonderful, bucolic place to take a nice English cycling vacation

But for real, keep the shades on for the champagne celly

Really really hope he doesn't lose the eye.

It wouldn't be the first eye that's been ruptured from a cork.

The bottle of Prosecco has been disqualified from the Giro and fined 300 CHF for aggressive actions at the finish. (h/t @andymcgra)

or how about don't give the the bottle sitting on the ground so they're leaning over it to open it. How hard is it to have a table next to them?

Not surprised it happened. Perhaps some basic coaching before such an activity will help like don’t point the bottle at your face when opening no matter the temptation.

My very limited experience with fizzy wine has resulted in a few striking the ceiling..

really hope this just hit his cheek and results in a bruise rather than actually hitting his eye...

Sorry to read about his injury. It's really too bad, especially after winning the sprint. He's a great rider and still has a lot to offer pro racing.
