Roval Terra handlebars

Just came across these: https://rovalcomponents.com/products/terra-handlebar, pretty interesting dimensions. A bit like Whisky No.9 12F, but with even shallower drop.

Has anyone got one of these on their bike? How does it handle in road bike mode? How much width does a 12-deg flare add to the drops (e.g. for a 40cm C-C bar)?

I run PRO Discover carbons which are similar in specs too. They list a 20 deg flare, 40cm at the tops is 50cm in the drops.

Nice and finally manufactures are building 38cm bars!

Just using the maths it's about 4.4cm total width added with that shallow a drop, so not that much in the scheme of things.

Seems like the drops being that shallow makes them more for control/leverage rather than changing hand positions, so not sure how great they'd be on the road. Also can't tell how the design of the drop transition would equate to hood and hand position - some flared bars angle the hoods in a ton which isn't the best for some people. But the 12d flare is becoming more and more common for bars, as it strikes a nice balance of increasing leverage, wrist clearance and hood positioning stability.

Just not enough info out there to make an informed decision.

Not quite, lots of manufacturers were making narrow bars in the past 5-8 years, just not many were publicised and even then it depends on what part of the bars was the basis for their sizing. Enve Aero bars have been out for while and their sizing is center to center at the drops, so the actual C-C sizing at the hoods is 5cm less. And some manufacturers measured the size outside to outside at the hoods. So "38cm" is an arbitrary number unless you get into the actual design of the bar, kind of like how a 56cm bike can vary wildly depending on geo.

I would never trust anything on any of my bicycles with the name Enve on it, their reliability is non existent and how they measure their components is completely irrelevant to me.

Based on their global position in the industry and witnessed presence in professional peloton in volumes, I’d disagree.

I'd like to hear the story, nonetheless, if there is one. Sometimes what happens on the ProTour doesn't reflect what happens at the consumer level.

Last ENVE product I had in my hands was an EDGE stem, to date myself.

Don't see Enve anywhere?

Besides the fact they don't chose their own equipment, they get paid to ride the equipment they do.

Ford sold a lot of Pintos and Chevy sold a lot a Vega's didn't make them safe and dependable cars!

Just once I’ll bite, there is this thing called history. 2022 isn’t the only year we have raced bikes. Look to the past and very recently even.

Speaking of history, maybe you have forgotten Enve has had a long history of failures, recalls and incompatibilities. Keep eating up their marketing tales, and giving them money, if you are happy with their junk.

I’m running Zipp SL-70 XPLR on one of my bikes and really like them. The Roval Terra looks similar, just with a bit less drop. If I end up swapping bars on my Checkpoint (stock Bontrager gravel bar) I’d consider the Terra.

I highly recommend you take a look at the FSA AGX bar with a similar specs including the 12 degree flare. I run them on both my Cervelo Aspero (I think of this as my "road" bike) and my Giant Revolt gravel bike. It's a really comfortable bar with unique "sculpted" contact points that are a game changer for me.

I have the Zipp as well and it won’t come off the bike unless something special takes it’s place. My favorite bar of many over the years. They nailed it with the shape and fit with my sram levers for riding gravel road and trails.
