Older carbon-lugged Colnagos though, that's my weakness.

Aaaaah yes, propaganda that influenced Boomer thinking for decades (and still does). That really set the tone for that generations' thought process. Let's forward some Minions memes and collectively try to figure out how to open a .pdf.

Sort of in the same boat ... sort of.
Sold the Merckx (well, sort of, UPS killed it) and figured that four bikes was enough. Then a 63x60 CSI popped up on eBay and I'm the current high bidder. I'm sort of hoping I don't win it. Retirement is eight weeks away and travel beckons.

I can totally understand the "stable is stable" feeling.
I have the Bob Jackson custom and the Raleigh 20 folder, both for 50 years. The Big Dummy stays, very useful. The Nagasawa road fixie stays - what could be better? After three tries at a custom all-road, the Bingham enters the permanent collection. The Pivot FS 29er is the bombproof perfect bike for MV trails. The dropbar conversion Litespeed 26er is a great commuter and takes the studded tire wheels in gnarly winter conditions. The Firefly was built for someone else, but every time I see the odd grail bike Peg, Kirk, IF, Parlee, whatever that would fit, I ask myself, would I rather have that, or the bike I have, and so far, the Firefly wins. Also, I learned with the stainless steel Anderson that on salty MV, titanium is king. The bikes with the most annual miles are Ti and the carbon Pivot. |

Incidentally, if you sub to GCN+, check this out: goes from very organized collector all the way to what one would consider hoarding. Well made.

[QUOTE=mhespenheide;3093935]I'm at N=8-10, depending how you count. I'm still browsing eBay and CL, but more and more I'm wondering how one of those potential new-to-me bikes would be noticeably better than what I already have.
That said, I could still pick up / build up another 4-5 without too much trouble justifying it. I'm getting closer, but I'm not there yet... [/QUOTE For me, "collecting" isn't about having something better, but rather interesting to me. I think about half of what I've got it was just because I'm nostalgic for bikes that were really cool when I was younger

It's on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3eEba0F794
I only "collect" things that I'd actually build up/ride.

Oof, I’ve been going down the Parlee rabbit hole and I found an ad from you. You look to be similar in size, so I’ll def keep an eye open for your ads!

On topic, I’ll add: buying bikes is not a substitute for riding them. |

...but I can browse this site and eBay and Craigslist while on a 5-10 minute break at work, while I can't squeeze in a 5-10 minute ride.
Not joking, I think it seriously contributes. |

Less time collecting = more smiles riding.
