Okay, not a movie but a show that was on long enough ago that many may not have seen or know of it...

The Bernie Mac Show

Excellent comedy! Currently on Prime.

Not a trilogy, but the 3 films made by Andrei Tarkovsky in the 1970s are just beyond compare: Solaris (1972); Mirror (1975); Stalker (1979).

Meditative, philosophical, spiritual ...these are not action flicks.

This one was a regular in an art house cinema in my hometown. They also showed "koyannisquaatsi" once a week. The leaflet said "the closest thing you can get to an LSD trip without breaking any laws"

Local hero

I like pretty much all bill forsyth films and the quirky characters in them. This ones Scotland coast setting, late career Burt Lancaster character, and mark knopfler soundtrack is a treat.

I am a movie fananatic.
So these are 2 cultish film directors whose movies stick out.

Val Lewton who did the original Cat People did some off beat classic old horror movies which were unique for their time:

"I walked with the Zombie" is a unique and interesting 1940's flick

Eliseo Subiela from Argentina did some really unique films as well. This guy is a serious auteur:

The Dark Side of the Heart came out in 1992. Very existential, though provoking and funny movie.

Didn't know this existed until I wandered across it on the Criterion Channel last night. Harvey Keitel and Harry Dean Stanton, can't go wrong.
Sometimes Sci-fi gets the future right on the nose:

Science-fiction is far from my favorite genre, but I enjoyed Colossus: The Forbin Project. It's about an evil supercomputer. I don't know if this movie is well-known or not, but I had never heard of it before I watched it.

I also enjoyed Je t'aime, je t'aime. It's about a man who made a suicide attempt and is recruited for a time-travel experiment. I'm usually not a great fan of Alain Resnais's art-house films, but I found this one compelling.

Just found this one on YouTube and watched this evening. Incredibly powerful anti war film in Russian with subtitles. It was unlike anything I’ve ever seen on WWII.....all done from the Russian perspective.

Star Wars Holiday Special. A cinematic masterpiece. Triumphantly produced, with some of the finest actors from the era on full display. A post-modernist soundtrack that will leave you speechless. A storyline so delicately intertwined that you may well lose yourself in the adventure. It’s on YouTube. Find it, you must.
