Talk about ‘being born with an advantage’...

6lbs. 6 oz. at birth, according to my mom. That explains why my VO2 max was "grossly ordinary" according to the sports physiology tech...

21.5” @ 8 lb 10 oz now 6’ 5” 220lb. I college I did a body fat test For a team I was on in a tank of water, they had me exhale all the air I could and they couldn’t believe what my output was. The docs also say my heart is larger than normal.

My son was 22” and 8’ lb 12 oz. He’s 6’6” 205 with a large heart. He went 1:44 in the 200 yard free last year as a part time swimmer. His swim coach tells me his capacity for work is extreme and if I would let him swim year round he would come home with a D1 swim scholarship. He’s on pace to break 1:40 this year. We shall see

my 1st son was 9#2oz, and even though he only rides with me 2-3 times a month, when he rides with me he is rocket uphill. I was excited when he first started swimming at age 6-7, how naturally good his initial stroke was and how he took coaching and just did it. fast fwd and i force him to swim as a HS extracurricular (his choice, i just told him pick a sport or club), but he only goes to minimum practices and doesn't work at it... Frustrating but i didn't want to be the dad who over-pressured etc.. had a friend whose son was really good and they did drive him and then he quit at 16. Good luck--140 wow. I only swam one year on a bet with my best friend, and i was proud to get my 100 under 60! ( will forever be the most improved swimmer in my school's history--I could go only 1 lap (25 length) before stopping and couldn't flip turn when i started.

Interesting, i thought perhaps 40 yards were the same as 60 meters with some poor and fast conversion in my head and that you were idd very proud of that lightning speed of yours .) Thats what we run here but realize with some more proper math its not the same.. So is 40 yards something you run at a young age or something in the US?

My son was a month early and 5 pounds. He's 5'10" and 150# at age 20. He's freakishly strong for his size and races NCAA club cycling for the Naval Academy. He has a pretty high FTP, he just needs to harness it a little and find his smooth.

Two points;

1. Statistical mean data tends to be less accurate when you look at individuals. IOW, if you look at the data of the study you're going to find that outliers to the conclusions aren't all that uncommon.

2. Genetics. Having someone in the direct bloodline is going to be a far more likely indicator of performance potential.
