1969 Colnago Super - Baylis
Sometimes a classic bike just stops me in my tracks. The paint and details are stunning. Great story behind it, too.
https://www.flickr.com/photos/652143...h/17126696191/ You guys seen any 60s, 70s, or early 80s bikes that had a similar effect on you? |

Look at all that tire clearance, must be a gravel bike.
The story was fun to read. |

Agree, gorgeous.
Curious what others think about the pump paint, though. Beautiful detail but on reflection I think the stripes and logo are overkill and it would look better as a solid color. Yes, minor point, just wondering… |

Thanks for posting.
I went to Mecca, Velo Sport, in 1971 and bought my first real bike a Falcon San Remo. It had all the same components and details that this Colnago had but I could afford it because it was $100 cheaper. At that time the Velo Sport showroom had dozens of Colnago framesets all painted in solid, primary colors hanging from hooks in the ceiling.

Frame fit Imperos didn't come along for a couple more years. You needed a Campy clamp-on pump clip.

I am missing the relevance of your comment. I was referring to the fact that the pump's paint job replicates the world championship and Colnago decals on the seat tube.

I meant no offense. I was just speaking with regard to authenticity as an accurate restoration. It's hard to look at some of the vintage stuff without comparing it to what one can recall.

I agree. Would have left it solid color.

I for one think it would be better without the pump aesthetically.

I thought the pump looked cool. I wonder if it works. Every one I had broke after about the 3rd time using it.

Gorgeous bike. And the pump works for me, especially the original little blue rubber sleeves on the legs of the Campy Silca head.

It's nice to see someone show a bike like this the respect it deserves. That's a trophy for life.
