Curious, how long does 53k take you to ski?
It really was one of those days.

50km is usually 3ish hours at my training pace. Yesterday was a cruise day and took me 3:27. That’s with 2,800 feet of climbing. Avg HR 123, max 144.

Love the family skis. Always fun to get the whole crew out in the snow.

Well, I finally gave it a try. Did an hour long lesson at the local xc ski center. Covered both classic style and skate skiing. Damn, that is hard work.

If I had been more coordinated it probably would have been more of a workout. I spent most of my energy just trying not to fall. Elegant, it was not.

Hoping to make it a regular thing next winter.

I’ve been skiing for years, but this has been a light year for me with low snow and high temps in Tahoe. Just got a weekend in at royal gorge

Take me with you!!! In all seriousness, I've only been able to get up there twice this year and have been looking for someone willing to head up for the day now and then. None of my bay area cycling friends ski.

I was semi-training for the Great Ski Race next week, but just got back from a work trip from hell and brought a cold back with me. ugh.

I won’t go back up if it doesn’t snow again... but I’ll let you know. They’ve already had to slim the Great Race course, hopefully they can run it. The second half will be very light on snow

Fantastic conditions today. Dense base covered with about 3 inches of lake effect powder. 21F, intermittent sun and clouds.

The sad part is it looks like it's coming to a premature end. The rest of this week will be in the 40s with some rain showers. We have a nice base but it's not that deep and it doesn't look good for us. I can't remember a nordic ski season ending around here on March 1.
Hopefully Tug Hill and the Adirondacks will keep it going until April.

Color me envious. An almost no-snow Dec in my part of WI, although the NW corner has gotten quite a bit in the last week or so. Heading to Marquette MI for New Year's, and while they're known for great snow they too have the low-snow affliction this season to date. Probably will end of on B skis as the cover is just to inconsistent.

We got about 3 inches Sun night and it just started again with the forecast for 4-6 by mid-morning. Hope that they can groom the trails at the Brown County Reforestation Camp with our biathlon program's first even scheduled for Jan 10.

Carpe Skiem!

Thumbs up

It has been a dog's age since I have enjoyed time on XC skis.
Have been doing snowshoeing when we get enough white stuff.

Might be fun to head out and make an investment in new skis, though!
Any suggestions on a XC forum similar to Paceline for equipment guidance?

We had a foot of perfect snow here in Boston, it stuck around for a few days, got out on my XC skis for one of them, and then just like that it went up to 60 degrees, rained two inches, and we are back to bare ground.

Hell yeah!

Been out 11 times this season so far. Got my first 50km ski in on Sunday. Have some pics I need to upload.

This is my second winter on the newest Speedmax and I really like it. I'd love to try the new Redline 3.0 but my ski budget was blown on an AT setup.

how steep is the learning curve?

Is it common to rent XC skis?
You might try your nearby REI store for rentals and instruction classes. I know the East Hanover store is running a Feb 2021 snow-shoeing event in Montville NJ (alas sold-out at this time).

Full moon, just skated 20 km with my wife. Managed to convince her to leave the headlight off. A little diffuse moonlight and do the rest by feel, with a few touch-and-go descents... I like Nordic skiing as much as - gasp! - cycling.
