I think he's said that he'll stay on dirt for the most part until the 2020 Olympics, which he wants to race MTBs at.
With Wout dabbling in the Spring Classics and performing quite well, well, I think we may be seeing TNG of super stars waiting in the wings. And it's probably for the best that they're not shoved into World Tour racing at a young age. Some of the delirious reporting of MVDP's multi-discipline Championship has forgotten that Marianne Vos is a World Champion in road, cyclocross, and track - with an Olympic gold thrown in there for good measure. VdP has more talent than Van Aert and look what Van Aert has been able to do.
I strongly suspect that if/when VdP races road again, he'll kick some serious butt M |

Would have been great watching him (and Nederlands) duels Van Aert (and Belgique) at Worlds |

what that picture fails to show is that MvdP actually crashed and landed on his a*** early in the race. No biggie, just picked himself up and went on with it, slicing through the field.
impressive |

She was also on the winning MTB XC Relay team, so there were 4 rainbow jerseys in her closet at the same time.

grace under pressure is awesome to see from him. for a while, he was getting so used to winning and being way off the front that he couldn't "reset" if some issue occurred. jammed gearing, broken cranksets, flat tires, a shoe stuck in Wout's spokes, etc... all of them really rattled him and he couldn't move past them mentally to fight back. seems to have grown past that, and it's great to see. |
