Did you really think you had a chance? I actually expected Seattle.

I hear you, what's the appeal (Hollywood, endorsements, $$$)? So he's going to DH on a team with Pujols?

The appeal is playing with possibly the greatest position player ever since World War II in a large market on the West Coast.

Oh, and their pitching staff is garbage so he's got a gimme spot in the rotation.

Pujols was -2 WAR last year. I doubt he sees the field much at all next year.

Agreed on Trout. He'd have a gimme spot at the top of virtually any rotation in the MLB.

What are they going to do with Pujols and his $28mm contract? Put him on the bench so Ohtani can hit? That's a lot of $$ doing nothing.

If it wasn't going to be the Rangers, I'd sooner have seen him in Seattle. Not the Angels. Barf

And yet they'll still suck (relatively, coming from an A's fan) and still have a $28M albatross. A no brainer from the Angles perspective, little added to the payroll.

So where do you think Stanton goes? Dodgers?

I'm surprised he didn't choose the Dodgers?

I thought he was easily going to the Dodgers, which is why I haven't been following this story too closely...

Way to do the math is Pujols' contract probably comes off the books right around the time Otani's rookie deal is up. Which will probably necessitate a large deal that slots in at about Pujols was making.

My guess is they ship Pujols somewhere and just eat the large amount of his contract, or just DFA him and move on with the sunk cost.

I am a Giants fan but not following baseball as closely as I used to. Giants were pursuing this guy but I wasn’t as excited about him as Stanton as from my recall, outside of Ichiro, the Japanese League transplants have never made as big a splash as their hype. I’m sure some folks will show some examples but I think Stanton is the real jewel in this scrum.

I agree, they just got way better with Stanton. As if they needed another power bat ...
