Neutron ultra wider rim alternative ??

Dunno how to really title this.. heres the story.. Love love love my Neutrons..But would like a wider internal ie c17 a la Shamal..etc

Any opinions on an equivalent wheel but with a 17mm internal for wider tires.. Wish Campy would revamp these wheels with a wider TLR rim..

I know some are going to suggest Shamals but part of the comfort beauty of the Neutrons are the SS spokes..

On a side note anyone tried the Mavic Pro Carbon Ksyriums..

I just bought a pair of Shamals for this very reason. If you decide to go in that direction, I believe I paid a bit less than $675 from PBK (which, yeah, carries some risks, I know, but the price was good enough that I went for it).

I have been looking at the Shamals.. did you ride on Neutrons before this.. I am interested to hear comparisons.. I have heard that they are harsher due to the aluminium spokes

I've ridden Neutrons on and off for years and love them. This will be my first experience with Shamals, which I've heard ride well (though what you're saying makes sense and gives me pause).

I guess it may be that the alloy spokes are offset by the use of wider lower pressure tires.. Will be interesting to hear your review..

If you want Campagnolo, stainless steel spokes, and a wider rim, I think you basically have two choices:

a) Campagnolo Zonda C17 (G3).

b) Record hubs (I think Starbike is still the cheapest online vendor, even with shipping to the US); + stainless Sapim or DT spokes of your choosing; + a wider rim of your choosing (DT RR511 also at a good price at Starbike, or other); + (unless you will build them yourself) oldpotatoe's expertise and labor.

My frame does not accept the wider C17 rims, but I do have new ('16) regular Shamal Ultras...they are fantastic wheels. All my other wheels are trad laced ss spokes, and I cannot say I really notice any difference between them and the Shamal alloy spokes per se.

first off - i own both neutrons and shamals, and would pick the shamals every day of the week, though i agree the neutrons do ride nicely.

secondly - the zondas are a similar weight to the neutrons, come in C17 regalia and have SS spokes, might be worth consideration.

additionally, on paper, there is nothing super special about neutrons. you could certainly build a similar set of wheels around wider rims like archetypes and white industries hubs, hit a similar weight and spoke count.

i have many similar wheelsets and the ride is quite close to the neutrons, i think, though it's hard to really quantify what "ride quality" really is right?

Wasn’t being snarky, I thought I’d seen them for sale on Merlin or some such..

All good

I'm a big fan of Neutrons also. Of course you could do Record hubs to any number of rims and get a similar experience (and have tires be easier to mount), but I totally get the affinity for the Campy experience soup to nutz.

Record hubs, sadly, only come in one hole count.

Had Shamals for going on three years now and beat them to death. Phenomenal wheels. If you want C17, way worse ways to go.
