Decoding Moots serial number.

Anyone know how to decode this?

Serial number: 18M9017

I assume: 18 = size

M=?

9017 =

Anyone take a guess as year of production. Frame is a MotoX 29er listed as a 18".

From the seller on Fleabay who has had 20-30 ti frames he has been selling over the last several months. Would be interesting to hear the story on his brother.

Seems legit.

Unfortunately, it is not very clear, at least to me. The best thing to do may be to simply call Kayla at Moots.

You are correct, in that "18" = SIZE.
"M" = MOOTS.
"9017" = PRODUCTION DATES, but I have no idea how Moots decipher that.

For instance, I have a 58cm Psychlo-X.
The Serial Number is 58M4333
So, a 58cm, Moots, built in October 2003 (per Moots).
How "4333" translates to "October 2003" is beyond me.

Q: WHERE IS MY SERIAL NUMBER LOCATED?
A: Your Moots serial number is on the bottom side of the bottom bracket. It will be a number followed by a letter, then a series of numbers for most— EXAMPLE: 56M1967. The first number indicates the size of the frame (in this case, 56cm). The letter “M” is for Moots and the numbers following are used for us to identify when a particular frame was made.

90xx is probably mid 2008 to early 2009 according to this chart

JG from Moots here- For the most part it is the size first, then a letter.....starting in the mid 90s we used M then switch over to O (not zero) about 6 years ago. The last 4 digits are the numeric order they were built.

I'm out of the office right now, but if you email info@moots.com we should be able to give you about when it was built. Because most of our bikes are built to order it is best to confirm all the specs off that specific bike, our records only have a limited amount of details.

Yea I’ve been following some of those auctions. Interesting that they have the M serial numbers, making them older, yet the Mooto have disc brakes.
