My Shamals are the milles. They're great.

Other than aesthetics and the braking surface, is there any difference?

They turn any bike into a rocket ship. But you will feel the bumps more.

I have fulcrum zero nite c17 - fulcrum version of shamal with less pronounced G3 pattern on rear. Great wheels (not sure how durable the rim coating will be).
I have neutrons (pre - ultra) and rebuilt the rear with as I wanted to keep them going (rear rim dented after a severe pothole incident - did not expect them to survive. Bent back the rim wall and rode them for a while before a decently priced rim was available). I am looking at a possible neutron type addition with a coated rim and c17 - the dt Swiss PR 1400 Oxic look good and may be of interest. Bladed steel spokes and rim depth similar to neutron (there was a set in the classifieds recently - if I had > 30 posts I would have bought those). |

I assume you want clinchers given you are seeking greater width. Otherwise, if open to tubulars, my nemesis to WI hubs with Sapim xray spokes (28/32) made my neutrons superfluous.

Right now, I have:
shamal ultra c17 shamal mille c15 archetypes w/ PMP hubs 24/28 DT Swiss spokes I've previously owned every edition of eurus and had the last 2 versions of Neutron. Milles look the best and the rim coating is still perfect, BUT the blue pads wear very quickly and are a pita if you use other wheels because you can't use them with alum or carbon rims. Shamal C17's are great and my 52mm carbon wheels have gathered dust because I feel these are just as fast for racing. I think the Archetypes look good, especially on an old steel bike, have a softer ride, but are not as stiff if sprinting or out of saddle closing a gap.
