Mcfk parts - anyone using a stem or a post?
Just looking for a little feedback on Mcfk parts.
Most interested in their seatpost and stem. |

Might want to ask on the Weight Weenies forum; lots of users there. I think some of the WW members are members here as well though.

I am wondering if other than the "lightweight-ness" are these parts worth the premium.
I want to reduce the weight of my Moots Vamoots RSL a little and I am working top down. |

Bars and stems
I like light gear but I am careful about light bars and stems.
A few years back a shop team I was on got some bars and stems from a company called Pedalforce- light stuff. So I had a bar and stem on my bike. During the final criterium at Cascade it felt like my headset was loose, so I pulled into the pit (lied and told them I was in a crash)- so they tightened up my headset for me before they put me back in. During the race I notice that my bars were off-center but I didn't think too much about it- I just got through the stage. Next day after drive home I was cleaning my bike- I inspected the stem- On the underside of the stem there was a crack that ran along the axis of the extension of the stem- starting from the steerer clamp and running almost all the way to the bar clamp. I took it off and put something else on my bike, but later in the year one of my teammates crashed when his stem failed in a similar manner. |

A few pals have been using their stems for years. For exotic light weight parts, they're not as outrageously priced as AX Lightness or THM. They seem to be in the middle space between one man outfits such as Berk and manufacturers with composites pedigree such as AX. In any case, the stuff looks pretty rough in person so that may, ironically, be an indication of it being "overbuilt."

I'm happy with the weights, compared to the Enve equipment it replaced.
The seat post and mast topper are perfect. The stem requires some care with initial installation. I've also had to use carbon paste and go a tiny bit over the torque recommendation to keep the bar secure in the stem. In terms of riding, I'm a 195lb track sprinter, and use the MCFK gear with confidence. |

Have a MCFK bonded to a 3T bar. Love the setup. Very stiff and comfortable for me. I see the lightweight as a bonus. The feel is tops for me.

If using the Mcfk stem, do you need to remove the bar tape and brake lever to get it on?

I installed the Mcfk stem and it's lovely.
