Unfortunately my friend making the part lost his 19yr old son suddenly late this summer and his life has been a little complicated since.

I didn’t want to bug him any, so I reached out after two months and now the project is back online.

So excited to see if this is going to work.

Curious question for the forum:

What should I pay for this custom built ti part?

He is doing it for free, but I plan on paying because that is way too much work just for fun.

$100 ok?
I think a crisp $100 bill and maybe some of his favorite beverage. Very sad, to lose a son or daughter...a parent's worse nightmare.

very cool. i say take him and his wife out to dinner.

if i were doing a favor for a pal, i would not accept cash, that can be a little awkward, for both parties, even with, of course, the best intentions.

different story if you grab the check at dinner before he can and remind him that what goes around, come around, so to speak.

This. If he was looking for money he'd probably have mentioned it.

And wrestling over the bill at dinner can be awkward. Just take a walk to the can at some point and give your credit card to the server or the host/hostess to pass along.

Just a terrible thing to happen to someone. Keep checking in on them and do what you can to give them a distraction from time to time.

Good suggestions. He is more of a patient than a friend, So i don’t think dinner and a tab would work, but I could do a gift card.

I know he works out a lot, and he works a lot, but that is about it.
