Thanks for your service. I almost got to serve for the Marines (and took couple semesters of ROTC in college) but couldn’t due to issues with my citizenship application (permanent alien applying for citizenship). Very confusing and complicated system.

My father served in Vietnam for the ROK Army ‘69-71.

U.S. Navy 1956-1959. Electronics Technician ET3.

I spent 2 years on a WW2 vintage destroyer DD 732. My wife never understood why I never wanted to go on a cruise ship.

Thanks to you, and all of you who have served. DD-701 was named after my great grandfather, John W Weeks. So probably the same era as your ship.

Everyone should serve in some way that better connects them with community and country. I did not do military, but cognizant of that, did do 24 years in local government.

In France, the big May ceremony is VE Day on May 8. And then Armistice Day on Nov. 11. Tumultuous times, still remembered and memorialized.

As we go through life, it turns out that many struggles are pretty much ongoing. We can hope that the example you have set, and the sacrifices made, will continue to remind us of everything that is at stake in the world we live in.

Sorry to hear about your father KIA more than sixty years ago. Very sad.
A truly grateful nation is thankful for his ultimate sacrifice to preserve our freedoms.

Greek mythology
The lyrics “throwing a nickel on the grass, save a fighter pilots ass--throw a nickel on the grass and you’ll be saved ” refers to saving their soul, an ode to the coin in Greek mythology.
I guess my point is I've been to about a dozen memorial services for squadron and airwing mates who gave their life serving this country..

I wish civilians.......oh, NVM...

Thanks for the polite reminders, gentlemen. As we remember those who didn’t come home, please include those who gave all during often-forgotten conflicts: https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/...atrick-coulman

Kevin came from my hometown. In a village that small, everyone knows everyone. His youngest brother was my sister’s classmate. His dad worked with my mom. Our mothers were friends. Kevin’s family never really recovered from his loss. Our community still grieves nearly forty years later.

Memorial day is for those who died though. Had a cousin who died in Korea and a very distant uncle who died in the Civil War. He was in a Vermont regiment and was shot and killed in Virginia.

My Freind wanted to be an officer in the Marines thru ROTC

May 28, 2023
My Freind wanted to be an officer in the Marines thru 4 years in the ROTC program at college.
Graduated from college with a degree in Civil engineering.
When you spend four years in ROTC and granulate the Army sends you directedly to officers training and with a commission has an officer in the Army.
There is a required medical exam at that time. My friend's exam showed a very slight heart mummer. Before he could contest that medical report he was drafted directly after graduation from college into the US Army has a PFC. With no way to fight it has he was now in the Army. One more great person that would have been a great officer.
Charles

You mean to tell me because he had a heart murmur, he wasn't considered good enough to be an officer, but good enough to be an enlisted man?!

I'll bet he didn't re-enlist after that screwing.
