1993, The Original Serotta Legend Ti

The following copied and pasted from a Serotta email (hope Ben doesn't mind).
- - - -

For those of you less familiar, this year marks the 30th birthday of the most popular Serotta from our first four decades.

The 1993 brochure introduced Serotta’s foray into titanium bike building.

The “Legend” series branding, was at the suggestion of our marketing team. They believed the moniker helped to emphasize the forward-facing values of the work that we’d accomplished in our first two decades of bike making.

Our dual obsessions:
-Every detail matters.
-Engineering to ever improve each cyclist’s ride performance

In its first 12 months, “the Legend” brought in more than 1,000 orders, shattering our previous records for new product.

Experimenting with tube dimensions has been a constant theme since Serotta started forming his own aero tubes in the mid-1970’s. In 1986 Serotta introduced the Colorado Concept, Serotta’s first complete set of proprietary steel frame tubes. Traditionalists were skeptical at the time. But looking back today, the Colorado became the forerunner for many of the engineering concepts used in today’s leading race bikes, in every material.

The 1993 Serotta Legend Ti built on the success of the steel tubes with modified dimensions for the specific characteristics of titanium. Astride their Legend Ti Serottas, the Coors Light Professional Cycling team became the winningest domestic racing program in the modern era of US cycling.

The Serotta Legend is, simply put, legendary.

As a Serotta Forum alumni put it well: it's the bike you can ride to the race, race on it, and ride home, and it does it all well.

There are many excellent Ti bikes out there these days, but IMO, tire clearance aside, none have any significant advantage over the venerable Legend.

Those bikes were winners, all around. I'm happy to own one.

Those bikes were and are amazing.

The ride was sublime- the pedigree was impeccable- and the paint was just right.

Too often I come here just for Serotta pictures - love me some ottrott and Meiveci

The only thing I wish they did better was the business side- because then the brand would still be around.

The Legend Ti is what got me really hooked onto titanium bikes even more so than Merlin did. A Serotta titanium was the dream bike after I finished college and it was sort of a promise to myself that I'd keep riding. While I lost that bike to a theft, I eventually ended up with another that will be my next bike to be rebuilt. As between a Legend ST, Ottrott ST and Meivici, the titanium was my favorite. Part of the affinity for Serottas is that they were one of the most prestigious bike brands when I was growing up and started cycling.

The review of the Serotta in Road Bike Action is what really put me over the edge.

I created my screen name when I was riding this Serotta Legend, but I sold it about 20 years ago to buy a Calfee Tetra Pro.

This one is 'long and low' with a 56 cm top tube and 54 cm seat tube. The frame and fork will likely be for sale later this summer. Send me a PM if you would like to be notified if I decide to sell it. It is a bit too low for me.

Sold a ton of these when in Morgul-Bismark in the early 90s. Best of the Serotta lot, imho, the Legend.

This is my 2003 Legend Ti. It's still a major part of my rides rotation. I also have a 1998 CSi.

One of my favorite Serottas and rather unusual, a Legend Ti DKS. Nearly 20 years ago.
