It was certainly a productive week in the shop. I was able to weld up one Solstice 29 and a Hummingbird singlespeed, tomorrow I’ll weld up one more Hummingbird singlespeed. Then all three will get serial numbers, cable guides, and a brake tab on the Solstice so I can get them to the powder coater first thing next week.

Thanks!
I need to check in here more often. Here are some teasers of a cool project that just left last week. |

Joe from Paragon Machine Works recently asked me if I coumd retrofit Z couplers onto his LeMond Poorad disc. Paragon has done more for the world of Framebuilding than words can express so when one of their own needs something I just won’t say “no”. I finally had the frame fixtures clear and it was Friday afternoon so I decided to get it done.

Very interesting!
NMW pal, have you retrofitted S&S couplings before? If so, how do you compare that with the Z? Which one do you prefer to do?

I think it would be so scary to cut a perfectly functional frame in half! Cool fittings...

I have not had the opportunity to work with S&S couplers so I can't speak to how they compare. I will say that the Z coupler is a fantastic design and was a very easy retrofit. I am actually planning a build of my own with Z couplers after having the opportunity to work with these.

Measure 10 times, cut once. This was actually a blessing in disguise. There was a cable stop that needed to be removed. Upon its removal a crack was found that started from a burn through when the frame was originally built. |
