I support this thread but don't have enough torque to contribute.

First American car I've ever owned and it has been surprisingly reliable and well made. I can fit a bike in the back with ease and I am amazed at how I get 20mpg consistently even with me driving fairly hard.

It has a setting where you can "quiet start" or start in "quiet mode", but I have yet to engage such tomfoolery.

I set mine to it's loudest setting as soon as I back out of the driveway 90% of the time and leave it there. It burbles and pops and will quite literally scare small children. Besides the sound, having nearly 500hp on hand in a naturally aspirated v8 with a six speed manual has been quite enjoyable.

I also live in a place where trucks outnumber cars 2 to 1 and they are often loud as well, not to mention Harleys which rumble by louder than my car. I'd make mine louder and faster but I want it to stay stock.

BTW, I'm looking at an old truck for my next vehicle, but the Bullitt stays.

Have been waiting for you to chime in! Love the Bullit.

Not to detract from the 500HP and exhaust that "burbles and pops", but that is an awesome shade of green!

Cheers!

No V8's in my world since 2001 when I turned in a Jeep Grand Cherokee for a Honda Pilot....have since moved onto BWW X5 with n55 engine...just a measly 300HP.

The most recent Mustang now has a Performance 4 cylinder Eco Boost option ($5000) over the base Eco Boost, based on the Focus Rally Car engine that produces 350 ft lbs Tq and is advertised at 332 HP. That is my favorite muscle car engine now. 6 speed manual or 10 speed auto...auto is faster manual more fun. V8 power and performance of just a few years ago with 4 cylinder economy and 200 lbs less weight on front wheels than the much more powerful 5.0 V8. So have been lusting over one....while my wife thinks I'm nuts. Maybe will go take a test drive and get it out of my system. The thought of taking $35-40,000 of assets and putting into a high depreciating vehicle usually brings me to my senses.

So cheers....and hope you continue to enjoy yours.
Not all cars depreciate badly. If you had bought a 427 Cobra S/C in 1967, it would be worth over a million easily today. Assuming you didn't kill yourself with it.

The GT350R Mustang has factory cutouts. When you put the car in track mode, it cuts out the mufflers and opens the exhaust. It gets loud.
But I would NEVER use a loud car as a daily driver.

You get the picture.
Fun cars. Good times. Nice sounds.

reading these really makes me miss the Sienna minivan I had before the divorce....super quiet and plush. the other day I was walking into work and a dude was pulling up in his yellow/black camaro SS convertible with the burbling exhaust and big-ole shiny wheels and I thought 'meh'....then there was a new Highlander with leather seats and I've not stopped thinking about it.

Amen. Worked for a guy in college that had one of these. No one could touch it or even sit in it except his wife and girlfriend.

LOL "wife and girlfriend"

That's the lifestyle mandated in the manual.

Dad's friend had a 240Z with the Scarab conversion when I was a kid ... a small black car with a small block V8 and a lumpy cam. Dad had the 280z with the stock engine. I think I'd prefer stock to drive, but that V8 sure had a good sound.
