Last Wednesday . . .

. . . my friend John and I went out to scout a possible gravel route for tne private bike tours I am leading later this summer near Brant Lake in the Adirondacks. I couldn't find a lot of info about the roads locally, so we took MTB's just in case--and it's a good thing we did!

Major portion of road was closed from storm damage and we ended up seeing some great scenery, but also walking around and lifting over multiple washed out stretches, downed trees, and destroyed bridges. We also found out this won't work for a gravel route, even after the road gets fixed. There's a six mile stretch up the mountain that Google optimistically calls a "Jeep road." But it's also now an abandoned stream bed through the woods and unlikely to be repaired. Crap. Woulda made a neat loop!

We ended up with 13 miles of riding, 1200 feet vertical, but it was a lot more interesting and difficult than those stats suggest. I rode the Trek Stache that I bought from HilltopperNY a month or so ago. Fun times!

Zunow today

OK, so it's right after a ride, not during. I'm not blessed with some of the beautiful scenery many of you have out your front door.

The "what did you ride today" thread got merged with this one anyway.

Out riding with my son today. With no day camp this summer, he'll be doing a lot more riding with me. He's already done a 4 mi climb with over 200 vertical feet/mi, now he just needs to work on endurance!

This is from Route 22 in NY looking at the Taconic Mountains.

Yesterday's ride . . .

. . . from Pine Lake to Piseco Lake and back in the New York Adirondacks. Fifty miles in the middle of nowhere with HilltopperNY and some non-Paceline friends and my Sweet Lady on roads that seemed to all have been repaved recently. Really smooth sailing. Scenery was beautiful, but the temps barely got to 50 degrees and some brisk breezes showed us it's not quite summer yet. That's me in yellow (photo courtesy of Hilltopper) with the spider and the Queen Bee Serotta.

Great shots Bumblebee. Every road should have a shoulder like that one!!!!

Did you come up with the BB paint job? Who did it for you? Are bees and spiders natural friends?
