Stripped brake pad holder screw hole on SRAM Force AXS disc caliper
While changing pads today, I discovered that a shop person who adjusted my front Force AXS disc brake caliper awhile back somehow stripped the screw hole for the 2.5mm hex pad holder screw. The screw can be inserted and removed, but the threads are only partially functional, and the screw will not fully tighten.
The brake is still functional and the safety pin is keeping the pads in place. I’m assuming I’m hosed here and I have to source a (very hard to find right now) new caliper, but just checking in case anyone has encountered this before and might have a fix. |

Are you saying the head is stripped or the threads themselves? As long as you can get the clip in, it shouldn't be an issue. It doesn't hold anything together, it's just a guide pin for the pads. The torque spec is < 1 Nm iirc. |

The threads don't really hold anything, though they are a nice touch. If the safety pin on the end of the bolt is there it's not going anywhere.
I have a set of Ultegra calipers I got from a customer that had the screws entirely stuck. I dremeled them out, which buggered up the threads, and used a split pin instead. Most of the lower end brakes just use a split pin. It doesn't make a difference, as long as there's something keeping the pads from ejecting out of the caliper. I'd just leave it as is. |

You can also use one of these slide-in split pins that you bend after inserting so it stays put (like Shimano use).
